Can my employer require me to use my insurance to cover OSHA mandated medical exams?

As a healthcare worker I am under a mandate by OSHA to have Tuberculosis testing done every year. My current employer is required to assure compliance but informs me that I must use my own health insurance to have it done by my own physician and they will cover the co-pay. All the employers I have had in the past have had agreements with hospitals or occupational health agencies to provide this testing free of charge to the employee.

  1. I am an OSHA officer and to my knowledge, it has to be covered by your employer as your job creates the risk for exposure. But, if you like your job, it may not be worth ruffling feathers since they are offering to pay your co-pay. Most clinics do the PPD for only $20. That's the cost that 6 clinics I worked at charge. Then there is always the free route thru your local health dept.
