Why is the bill so.. hated?
"This morning, I woke up to my radio alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly run by a state agency and supported by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility with its quality monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the Federal Communication Commission regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I got into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service (USPS) and drop the kids off at the public school. After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it’s valuables thanks to the local police department. I then log on to the internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA) and post on freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how the government better keeps its hands off my Medicare and to remind everyone that SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right." Now, if you read all that, you would notice that the government already regulates much of our everyday life. What is so bad about them regulating healthcare? Depending on where you get your information, it will increase or decrease our debt (our debt has been increasing since Reagan, and now it's getting attention, since people are losing jobs and the economy took a hit). I don't understand how you can blame Obama, for amassing a debt such as this. It's quite obvious he hasn't done much to help the situation as of yet, but it's not like he will be leaving office in one month. The Healthcare Bill will take time to reach it's full potential (which is SO FAR from what it could have been), and only time will tell if it will have paid off. I'm sorry for the wall of text, and I'm certain people will disagree, but I'm sure that people are okay with sharing opinions. So really, why is the bill hated? Why can't people take the time to see if it works?

- But Rush Limbaugh is going to move out of America now
- Your salient point is embodied in the last sentence. If I think that breaking a law (e.g., the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States) is beneficial, should you give me time to see if my lawbreaking works? You are missing the basic point about liberty. Some people will surrender their liberty in exchange for desired security. Unfortunately, those who thus surrender will sink - - - taking with them the citizens who prefer liberty.
- if you hadnt already noticed the objections arent rational. there are accusations that the dems are going to kill peoples grandparents. that there is no way it can work. or that we will beome a communist country. or that people will start having lots of abortions. all of this is fear based. but the origin of much of this comes from people with an agenda. the gop have been getting millions of dollars to block or stop this . they had the same battle during clintons presidency. this year the arguments have been quite unethical. it would be nice if people could be rational .but we have a lot of uneducated people in the us. if they looked overseas or to our north they would see that there isnt anything to fear. england has had it over fifty years . we cant do something that britain did fifty years ago?
- Bravo...what a great post. The answer, in my opinion, is that too many US citizens simply don't have the capacity to think beyond their knee-jerk reactions, based on the alarmist garbage fed to them by Fox and the blogosphere. But you're right, healthcare should be a service for the people, by the people, just like the many things you pointed to and more. Perhaps the new bill passed yesterday is the first step to improving the mental and overall health of Americans.
- Ok Think about this today 50 illegals get sick, break bones,ext.. and all together the unpaid bills will add up to say $200,000 ok now they don't pay for bills so where does this bill go??? It gets Sent to us in Taxes!!!!!! we all love higher taxes.
- i personally have a problem with Page 50/section 152, Page 58 and 59, Page 272. section 1145, and especially Page 429, line 13-25... My opinion, God is the only one who can write and "end-of-life" order. THIS IS THE 2nd OFFICIAL WHO HAS OUTLINED PARTS OF THE HEALTH CARE BILL...... Subject: : Judge Kithil of Marble Falls , TX - HB3200 highlighted pages the most egregious... Please read this carefully......especially the reference to pages 58 & 59. JUDGE KITHIL wrote: "I have reviewed selected sections of the bill, and find it unbelievable that our Congress, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, could come up with a bill loaded with so many wrong-headed elements." "Both Republicans and Democrats are equally responsible for the financial mess of both Social Security and Medicare programs." "I am opposed to HB 3200 for a number of reasons. To start with, it is estimated that a federal bureaucracy of more than 150,000 new employees will be required to administer HB3200. That is an unacceptable expansion of a government that is already too intrusive in our lives. If we are going to hire 150,000 new employees, let's put them to work protecting our borders, fighting the massive drug problem and putting more law enforcement/firefighters out there." JUDGE KITHIL continued: "Other problems I have with this bill include: ** Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally. ** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts. ** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN). ** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?) ** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors' fees. ** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care according to the patient's age. ** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception. ** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years. (Death counseling.) ** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order. HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on: "Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members of Congress. Members of Congress are already exempt from the Social Security system, and have a well-funded private plan that covers their retirement needs. If they were on our Social Security plan, I believe they would find a very quick 'fix' to make the plan financially sound for their future." Honorable David Kithil Marble Falls , Texas
- Yes, it is true that frequencies are regulated by the FCC, our food is inspected by the FDA, our power, water and other utilities come from government agencies, and our highways are maintained by the DOT. However, there are specific reasons why these things happen. Without the FCC, your radio would interfere with my microwave. Without the FDA, food standards would be the same as when Upton Sinclair wrote "The Jungle", and our utilities come from one source because it's simple economics that, with the utility cost of building multiple pipe systems, wires etc, costs would be too high, not to mention the ridiculous of construction that would go on. Also, without Departments of Transportation, we would pay a toll on every other road we got on, and again utility cost comes into play. However, health care is not like the things above. It doesn't interfere with other people's health care, because of competition quality is good and there are no utility costs. You also mentioned USPS, which is very interesting. Did you know that the USPS MUST keep a balanced budget, and the only money it receives from government is really "bailout" money to keep it afloat? The USPS was setup to be a public business entity intended to run on it's own funds from the profits that it made. There is NO public option in the bill, therefore the government is not creating a business entity to run health care, and they are not providing a service. They are just regulating how health care runs. Did you know that of the 30 million "uninsured" that many people have the ability to get insurance, but they choose not to get it? Many of these people are in there 20's to 30's and really have no need for insurance so they don't get it as it doesn't benefit them. Now, even if they don't get it, they get hit with taxes so it's a lose lose. It takes away Americans' freedom choose whether or not they want to buy a product. You may argue that this is similar to car insurance, but this is not the case as the main reason that everyone that operates a motor vehicle must have insurance is because if they're at fault for an accident, the victim is reimbursed for damages. As for the "death panels", that is an argument that only uninformed people make. Although government "regulates" our day to day life, it is for totally different reasons, none of which is why the health care bill was proposed and ultimately passed.
- Because they are forcing people to get health insurance with threat of penalty and imprisonment. It doesnt work for car insurance (visit any courtroom in America) unless of course you are a car insurance broker. I sell satellite tv, and would like a bill to pass requiring that everyone pays for satellite tv. If you don't, I will seize your assets and throw you in jail. http://www.SatHookup.com and I support this bill.
