What are the OSHA regulations regarding working on with a fork truck?

The place I would like to work uses a forktruck on the premises, I wouldnt be using it, just on the same site. The Manager says you have to be 19 but several other people said you have to be 18. I'm just askin for the age. A link to the place were you found it would be good as well. the manager said that the OSHA regulation is 19, i think that it's 18, im just looking for clarification. its not company policy, its OSHA.

Public Comments

  1. If the manager says 19 then that is company policy and it would prevail even if OSHA is lower.~
  2. As long as you attend appropriate training and are observed safely operating the equipment, OSHA does not make a stipulation on age of drivers. This could be different from a state administered OSHA program, there are currently 26 states that have their own program, those rules may be more stringent. The industrial fork truck standard is 1910.178 found here: http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=STANDARDS&p_id=9828
