What's so bad about socialism?

What's so bad about socialism? This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration. At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school. Then, after spending the day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, I drive back to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and the fire marshall's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department. I then log onto the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.

  1. Most of the righties crying "socialism" have no idea what socialism is. Socialism-Worker control of the means of production. Community self-governance. A belief in personal freedom, responsibility and self direction. EDIT: Somebody actually said: "All of it paid for by private enterprise." Even though you're whole point is, correctly, that everything you mentioned was/is funded in the public sector with tax dollars. It's as if they're not even reading what you wrote.
  2. Fox News is lying to their blind followers about what Socialism really is.
  3. Nothing you should be a stand up comedian because that left me in stitches.
  4. all the examples you just listed SUCK in some form or another. the problem with those examples is that you don't get to realize how much better things would be without them in free market system. the PO is govt operated monopoly that is still in business ONLY because it is a govt operated monopoly. the FDA has killed more people with restrictions and regulations. the roads??? are you kidding? anyone living in DC can tell you that's a joke... public schools, really? why does you think homeschooling/private school enrollment is on a rapid rise being operated on smaller budgets and public schools are hemorrage money and still turn out unprepared students.
  5. It's the TYRANNY, stupid.
  6. It's just not what the USA was founded on. That's all. If people are down for socialism, they need to move to a socialist country!!
  7. All of it paid for by private enterprise.
  8. You will love Europe have a nice trip.
  9. If you really want to know ; Be the 1st USA citizen ( if you R 1 ) to strap on 2 dozen empty milk jugs and float across the Gulf of Mexico / Caribbean Sea to Cuba ? Government One-party socialist republic (Communist state)
  10. From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependence back into bondage."
