What is the OSHA regulation on power cords laying on the floor, is there a rule that says ?

everything must be hard wired within so many days?

  1. i don't think so. i think it is ok as long as it is the proper gage for the work load and that it is not a triping hazard or not labled properly ex Caution tape
  2. I know that we had to put up hooks from the ceiling and run all extension cords on them so no cord was on the ground.Said it was a fall issue. It was fairly easy though and it looks much neater now that they are all overhead.
  3. Depends on what you are doing. Power cords for hand tools and other temporary use is ok, but you have to be careful that don't create a trip hazard. Temporary use is usually defined as less than 90 days. Power cords for permanently installed equipment is different. See if this helps: OSHA 1910.305(g)(1)(iii) says that flexible cords and cables may not be used: A - As a substitute for the fixed wiring of a structure; B - Where run through holes in walls, ceilings, or floors; C -Where run through doorways, windows, or similar openings; D -Where attached to building surfaces; or E -Where concealed behind building walls, ceilings, or floors.
