Why is leading liberal Janeane Garofalo so disgusted with the Obama administration? Great indication that President Obama is losing the left. Guess the campaign slogans did not work after all. In a recent interview with Punchline Magazine, feminist funny girl Janeane Garofalo was asked what her take on the BP oil spill was. Her answer was shocking. After characterizing BP as a “typical corporate greed, profit motive, cutting corners; treating workers and people and the environment like disposable lighters,” she made this astonishing bigoted comment about our beloved leader: “I also am disgusted that the Obama administration kept all the corrupt policies of the Bush administration in place, and helped feed into this tragedy. I don’t even understand it – I don’t understand how the Obama administration kept the same people in the management service in place, and kept ignoring the safety warnings. They had Ken Salazar as the Secretary of the Interior, who’s corrupt. It just makes no sense. I have no idea why the Obama administration has been as heartbreakingly disappointing as it has. So yeah, I’m just disgusted. Other than that, I don’t know what else to say. I’m sure this type of thing will continue to go on and on and on.” The interviewer, Emma Kat Richardson, went on to comment that, “I think even a week before the spill happened, Obama was talking about expanding offshore drilling,” to which Garofalo replied with: ”Oh yeah, definitely, definitely. But at midnight, when Bush left office – literally, on the night they left – they signed into law all kinds of corporate-friendly things. I don’t get it. You know, the corporation will always dominate; it’s naive to think differently. But I don’t know what it’s gonna take for the political realm to stop allowing the corporate realm to be so blatantly corrupted. It’ll probably never end, because it’s probably just the way it is. I assume that’s just the way it’s always been, and will always be – it just doesn’t get exposed until there’s a tragedy.” Did you catch that? My God, she practically called Obama the N-word. Does she not realize that any constructive criticism of Obama actually reveals an intense hatred of our first black President simply because of the color of his skin? I seem to recall writing those last two sentences before. Oh, yeah…I remember now. I pretty much made the same analysis about Anti-Defamation League Director Abe Foxman back in March, when he hypocritically did an about face on Obama and criticized him for opposing illegal housing construction in East Jerusalem. His exact words were: “We are shocked and stunned at the Administration’s tone and public dressing down of Israel. We cannot remember an instance when such harsh language was directed at a friend and ally of the United States.” Just days earlier, Foxman came out with a scathing report against Patriots and Tea Party activists entitled “Rage Grows in America” which states: “Since the election of Barack Obama as president, a current of anti-government hostility has swept across the United States, creating a climate of fervor and activism with manifestations ranging from incivility in public forums to acts of intimidation and violence.” Hypocrisy? I would say so. First dishonest Abe…and now Janeane Garofalo? http://www.thepeoplesvoice.org/TPV3/Voices.php/2010/06/26/does-janeane-garofalo-hate-obama-because
What do you think of what Ibn al Qayyim(RA) wrote regarding jews and does it still hold true? Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) described them well when he said: “The nation upon whom is the Divine wrath are the Jews, the people of lies, slander, betrayal, conspiracy and trickery, the killers of Prophets and consumers of ribaa (usury) and bribes. They have the most evil hearts of all nations, and the worst attitude. They are the farthest removed from (divine) Mercy and the closest to (divine) wrath. Their way is enmity and stirring up hatred. They represent the house of witchcraft, lies and trickery. They do not see anything wrong in rejecting and disbelieving in Prophets whom they did not like. With regard to a believer, they respect not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant [cf. Al-Tawbah 9:10]. They do not respect the rights of those who agree with them, or show any compassion towards them, nor do they show any justice or fairness to those who work with them. There is no safety or security for those who mix with them, and there is no sincerity towards those who use their services. The most evil of them is the one who is most intelligent, and the cleverest one among them is the one who cheats the most. The one who is good at heart – which it is unlikely to find among them – is not a Jew in any real sense. They are the most bad-tempered of people, with the gloomiest houses and the filthiest courtyards. They have very bad manners – their greeting is a curse, and meeting them is bad news. Their slogan is wrath and they are filled with hatred.” (Hidaayat al-Hayaaraa, p. 8)
Grey forms. How many children have they saved from paedophiles? I actually have no real objection to filling these forms in but I do not accept that children's safety is paramount it sounds too much like a propaganda slogan. Given that in recent cases people have slipped through or offended after they have been cleared I have serious doubts about the system actually working. How often has the system actually weeded out those who are a danger to the vulnerable? I have never even seen an estimate. My own suspicion is that the government particularly this one will start using the information given for purposes far removed from child safety to the detriment of all who work with children in a professional or voluntary basis. The basic danger lies in the question: "If you won't answer this what are you hiding?" This may be fair enough but can be the habit of officialdom that if you do not want to say where you are going at say at Road Census (and you do not have to) you could face proceedings on the basis that you have something to hide. The Communist governments were good at that. derby dol I agree but I also distrust the government and everything they establish
Will the slogan "Drill Baby Drill" haunt the Democrats in November? As we all know, Obama approved offshore oil drilling in March just weeks before the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank, causing the worst oil spill in history. How will the Democrats ever live that down? The rig exploded while drilling was still in progress. The oil well was not finished, it never produced one barrel of oil in production. If Obama had called a halt to all offshore oil drilling in March, instead of approving more drilling, the Deepwater Horizon disaster never would have happened. In fact, the Obama administration was scheduled to give a safety award to that very oil rig, except that it exploded one week before receiving that safety award. Hmmm, need to work on the test for that award, huh. How will the voters ever forgive the Obama administration for failing to prevent this ecological catastrophe when he had the chance? Marko, the Deomcrats own that franchise now. jonds, so you're falling back on the old saw that Obama is just as bad as Bush?
Should not we look before we leap? The final lap of West Bengal election process is going on. TMC is infatuated and obsessed with its slogan of change and again change and many of them are throwing up incredible ideas of metamorphosis of the state. The Left front is cranking up its electoral machine and giving finishing touches on the last moment of their electoral campaigning. .They have pinned their priority on some basic issues like agriculture, industrialization and job creation, more doctors for rural health centre, more schools in the vicinity of villages etc. The safety of women employees and fixing their working hours is also important. We are aware that many women employees working in small organizations are compelled to render their services even up to 7 pm. We have to amend that. The Left front now have surely learned the lesson and would instill the professionalism required across the board. Mistakes happen sometime. There is never a road without a turning. In this feverish pitch of last minute campaign and warlike alacrity of eleventh hour meetings, road shows etc,I am going to put forward some information which may help the people to judge a bit clearly the present situation. After opening the rose tinted glass of so called ‘change’ ,have we ever pondered over the rallying points of the opposition TMC regarding economy, literacy and health? I previously wrote how the opposition is marching ahead by exploiting the effusing emotional quotient of Singur and Nandigram incidents. That is called emotional blackmail of a whole state .They would not let the sleeping dog lie. Truly, the losers are us ,the people of the state . Their war mongering attitude don’t concede the fact that democracy is meant for betterment of maximum number of people . I feel what is good for India economically ,is also good for Bengal. For example, at least 70 millions people work in China in manufacturing industries .In India ,the number is 8 millions only. What does that mean? Manufacturing and other kind of industries are extremely essential for all round development of economy. The philip should come from the states. That does not mean that suddenly everyone would be forcefully absorbed in companies. But we should not miss the forest for its trees. One should understand how the economy evolves. If some more persons gets job, there would be some more money in the market. The person who has a cycle repairing shop would get more cycles to repair. The person who is working in a sweet meat shop would get more orders for sweets and samosas. The persons working as masons would find more work. The person who has a small watch repairing shop would get more numbers of watches to repair. The persons who is running a pan shop would sell some more pans and cigarettes. We would not be compelled to do everything in home which should not be done for sake of only saving the money .We may get the liberty of spending some more outside. I am just trying to put across the basic idea. That’s how an all encompassing beneficial effect the growth oriented economy provides. But remind, it requires a tough man for the hard road. That’s where the role of experienced mentors come up. We should now strive to achieve a balance between the needs of the landowners and the persons dependent on the land like small peasants, artisans etc. The aim would be rehabilitation, assistance and not mere replacement. But alas , we are not thinking. We are fully aware of the fact that the idea of railway driven growth is actually all bark and no bite. We are listening the shrill voice of opposition over states financial health and the incumbent government is being castigated for inept handling of state economy and government borrowings etc. But most probably, things are not as bad as they are being proclaimed. Government borrowing is not such a bewildering matter that one should jump up and shout from the rooftop over it. Central government pays nearly 20 % of the net income for servicing interest of government debts. Every student of chemistry knows that there are actually 3 ways to generate money. I would say it 4 in the present situation. First one is if the bank lends to the Government. Second one is if the bank lends to an individual or business organization.Third one is if we earn more foreign currency than we spend, ie ,more export than import roughly. The fourth one is the chance of printing lot of money if the opposition wants it. No joke. Empirically, the first three are the ways of expanding the broad money supply. So ,Government borrowing is a very natural phenomenon and there should not be so much fuss over it. It is a driving macroeconomical force. But the irony is,the politics of fuss actually what we are seeing in West Bengal. Give the dog a bad name and lash it. That is the central idea. There are so many ways you can castigate and disparage the ruling party. But doing something constructive is difficult. Somewhere I even read an article enunciating that as TMC is not as organized as Left front ,the corruption would be less. But some says that if money is the question, they would organize themselves within flat 15 minutes. So it is a decision which would define how and where we would want to see ourselves in the next 10 years. Do we want to see ourselves as an progressive industrialized state or we would go back to the era of stagnation. The opposition is actually very economical with truth . The cardinal point is not only industrialization ,but to find out a way toward generating more per capita income, self dependency and wealth formation. The internal flaws, if any, must be corrected and the strategy should be cohesive. Long live revolution. Am I wrong?
The War on Obama-cares- is insurance, socialism in canada? I've heard americans distort canadian healthcare to an incredible degree while ignoring the tragic and fatal flaws of the corporate greed based healthcare model practiced here in the USA. The 40 million working americans who don't have healthcare for themselves or children have fallen through the canyon of the greed makes right model. If you are elderly and or extremely poor, the often besieged american safety net will insure you. If you work and are only nearly drowning you won't qualify. You also will be victimized by your employer who not only doesn't pay you a living wage but will taunt you by offering you private insurance that you can't afford. On average 10% of your post tax income. If someone makes $8hr (many adults are glad to accept right now) and get 30hrs a week your take home is likely hovering just below $200 wk and a company insurance plan of only $20 a week is $80 of the roughly $800 you take home. $80 is against food, maybe your monthly bus pass or gas money to get to work. Our system turns the stomachs of most of the worlds people. Working people and children battle and die from curable chronic illness while our doctors focus on private clinics and plastic surgery. The "socialist" way is just a more responsible and mature way to share the cost and keep them manageable. Screaming "we're americans, we don't care and we don't share" is not the answer. I have yet to find the bill or the law entitled "obamacare" but if I were him I wouldn't run from it, my slogan would be 'Obama cares about you and they don't'. Fighting for private insurance profits and hospital cherry picking is not a desirable healthcare system anywhere. The canadian system is full of hyperbole as well both systems are hybrids, the lawmakers railing against public healthcare are on the 'socialist dole' as government workers and so are the 'subsidy welfare queens of corporate healthcare'. You don't want a bureaucrat picking your doctor but have no problems with a greedy fat cat? "Obama caring" is not about government its about profits, if the government adds competition then the fat cats will have to be more competitive on prices and services because all the people whining about socialism will jump ship to the cheaper better government alternative. Right now social healthcare is unmanaged because you have to treat the uninsured, why not let them pay something? If those 40 million people paid $6 a month it would go along way to helping cities and states who shoulder the burden of the uninsured showing up at the hospital once they are chronic. Obama cares makes better fiscal, moral, common and social sense than parroting corporate propaganda, thinly veiled racism and selfishness. So are you for big multi nationals killing americans or for the american worker?

How do you, US citizen feel this opinion? This is an opinion by Yukio Hatoyama, new prime minister of Japan. A New Path for Japan Article Tools Sponsored By By YUKIO HATOYAMA Published: August 26, 2009 TOKYO — In the post-Cold War period, Japan has been continually buffeted by the winds of market fundamentalism in a U.S.-led movement that is more usually called globalization. In the fundamentalist pursuit of capitalism people are treated not as an end but as a means. Consequently, human dignity is lost. How can we put an end to unrestrained market fundamentalism and financial capitalism, that are void of morals or moderation, in order to protect the finances and livelihoods of our citizens? That is the issue we are now facing. In these times, we must return to the idea of fraternity — as in the French slogan “liberté, égalité, fraternité” — as a force for moderating the danger inherent within freedom. Fraternity as I mean it can be described as a principle that aims to adjust to the excesses of the current globalized brand of capitalism and accommodate the local economic practices that have been fostered through our traditions. The recent economic crisis resulted from a way of thinking based on the idea that American-style free-market economics represents a universal and ideal economic order, and that all countries should modify the traditions and regulations governing their economies in line with global (or rather American) standards. In Japan, opinion was divided on how far the trend toward globalization should go. Some advocated the active embrace of globalism and leaving everything up to the dictates of the market. Others favored a more reticent approach, believing that efforts should be made to expand the social safety net and protect our traditional economic activities. Since the administration of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (2001-2006), the Liberal Democratic Party has stressed the former, while we in the Democratic Party of Japan have tended toward the latter position. The economic order in any country is built up over long years and reflects the influence of traditions, habits and national lifestyles. But globalism has progressed without any regard for non-economic values, or for environmental issues or problems of resource restriction. If we look back on the changes in Japanese society since the end of the Cold War, I believe it is no exaggeration to say that the global economy has damaged traditional economic activities and destroyed local communities. In terms of market theory, people are simply personnel expenses. But in the real world people support the fabric of the local community and are the physical embodiment of its lifestyle, traditions and culture. An individual gains respect as a person by acquiring a job and a role within the local community and being able to maintain his family’s livelihood. Under the principle of fraternity, we would not implement policies that leave areas relating to human lives and safety — such as agriculture, the environment and medicine — to the mercy of globalism. Our responsibility as politicians is to refocus our attention on those non-economic values that have been thrown aside by the march of globalism. We must work on policies that regenerate the ties that bring people together, that take greater account of nature and the environment, that rebuild welfare and medical systems, that provide better education and child-rearing support, and that address wealth disparities. Another national goal that emerges from the concept of fraternity is the creation of an East Asian community. Of course, the Japan-U.S. security pact will continue to be the cornerstone of Japanese diplomatic policy. But at the same time, we must not forget our identity as a nation located in Asia. I believe that the East Asian region, which is showing increasing vitality, must be recognized as Japan’s basic sphere of being. So we must continue to build frameworks for stable economic cooperation and security across the region. The financial crisis has suggested to many that the era of U.S. unilateralism may come to an end. It has also raised doubts about the permanence of the dollar as the key global currency. I also feel that as a result of the failure of the Iraq war and the financial crisis, the era of U.S.-led globalism is coming to an end and that we are moving toward an era of multipolarity. But at present no one country is ready to replace the United States as the dominant country. Nor is there a currency ready to replace the dollar as the world’s key currency. Although the influence of the U.S. is declining, it will remain the world’s leading military and economic power for the next two to three decades. Skip to next paragraph Related Times Topics: Yukio Hatoyama Current developments show clearly that China will become one of the world’s leading economic nations while also continuing to expand its military power. The size of China’s economy will surpass that of Ja
Current Events revise, edit, & comment? Snakebites can be dangerous, especially when you are not treated immediately. When you are bitten by a snake, it is important to take the bad blood out of your system. Certain areas in Nepal are not properly educated in handling such snakebites; and it is resulting in improper actions and even death. To prevent risks in the future, Sharma, an internist, has taken drastic measures to save peoples’ lives. The cause of the victims who are being bitten is from something that is very common, and there has been a reduction in snakebites after the program that Sharma had conducted. Snakebites are not helping the economy, rather making it worse. Therefore, we must develop a quicker way to rush victims for help. Sharma is an internist in Dharan at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science who works in lowland southeastern Nepal. In this rural area, there are numerous amounts of victims who are suffering from snakebites. Some poisonous snakes that are biting people are kraits, cobras, and vipers. This situation is even leading to death. A large portion of the problem is because the area is not well educated in handling such bites, and victims often don’t get proper healing in time. Used from past studies in Nepal, Sharma has collected the analysis of 20 fatal snakebites. Only four of the victims have died in a hospital, the rest have died on route or in a village. Another survey was conducted in nearby Bangladesh. This survey uncovered that 86 percent of people bitten by snakes were not taken to a hospital, but to snake charmers or other traditional healers. To take action of this dilemma, Sharma and his team trained paramedics for six weeks in snakebite treatment. They then distributed 5,000 flyers that explained basic precautions people can take to limit risk. Also, owners of motorbikes in villages can choose to serve as emergency transport in exchange for gasoline. After 14 months preceding the program, 305 people were bitten by snakes and 32 died. In another 14 months afterwards, the number of snakebites had reduced from 187 bites occurring, and with only one death. It is shown that Eastern Nepal has the highest frequency of fatal snakebites ever reported. The number of bites range from 162 to 100,000 people per year. David Warrell is a tropical medicine physician at the University of Oxford. Although he was not involved with this project, he has stated this demonstration was highly impressive and that it accentuates the importance of community education. By using motorbike ambulances, the team has saved many people from illnesses and even death. Sharma and his team noticed the cause of the snakebites after the flyers were handed out. It was resulted from precautions taken by women when they were doing outside chores. The flyer had included a slogan to encourage people to help others, “Bitten by a snake/catch a motorcycle volunteer/get to treatment center/save a life.” Not being informed of how to handle and react to snakebites can affect a person’s life. By conducting surveys and taking action, they are not only saving other peoples lives but they are also being responsible and considerable. The team has taken the time to make flyers and research data for safety in the future. Creating a backup plan can protect the team themselves and others as well. In conclusion, this new study shows that although venomous snakes can hurt many. The villages can save dozens of lives by racing victims to hospitals on motorbikes.
