Work place safety law! i want my work place to go down and i need HELP! ? So im 17 and i work in a warehouse. Since working there i have been treated unfairly. I got Carpal Tunnel from working there. They used to make me and my cousin stay until past 12 and not provide us with a ride home which i hear is breaking some sort of rules. Anyway the thing that got to me was not that i was given more work than everyone else because i was not a certain race, but the fact that after i told the supervisor i needed light work for two weeks he told me to take two weeks off. So many people have gotten hurt at work, or outside of work and our management has taken care of them. One guy hurt his leg out side of work and they gave him lighter work for a month or so. Another women sits in a chair and she does not even have to get up. I was only asking for two weeks, and i didnt get it i feel like i was treated unfairly. I talked to my teachers about it and apparently you cant tell someone not to come into work because of illness without paying them on their leave. what would help is a list of rules i can go through to see what my work place broke. A website anything! oh yeah im in Canada so im sure rules may differ to places in the US. i didnt literally mean go down. i just wanted attention to be brought to me question. My husband has been enduring a very hostile work place brought on by the reporting of safety violations ...? and sexual harassment. Since his reporting of both to his manager and to his manager's boss his hours have been dropped to below full time, and has been told if he wants his hours he has to work on Sunday which is against our beliefs. He has had to endure being the brunt of jokes in regards to the harassment and has been told by upper management to just "handle this in-house". My husband's witnesses have been intimidated by the accused (the general manager) by saying that if they defend the right person, their jobs are safe. Right before they were to be interrogated by the upper management. Please help us and tell me if we have a case against his employee, we cannot afford for him to lose this job as he is the only one with the job and we have 4 kids.

Random drug testing in schools just like the work place? Keeping drugs out of schools and keeping kids straight could mean less druggies at the work place as these kids get older. I have a right to work without worrying if the people I work with are going to flip out on dope, shouldn't students have the same rights and safety precautions? David, True, but America is more socialized then most third world countries. In plenty of them, education is only offered up to 8th grade. After that, people are on their own. My parents came from such a country.

Health and safety at work: bleach being used to clean cups...? Can anyone give me some advice which type of regulations are breached by my employer, when he allows the cleaning personnel to use bleach to clean cups and the inside of the microwave? I am aware that bleach is classified as a corrosive substance in the COSHH regulations, however I am not working with the substance, it is only used in my work place. I have adressed this issue to the office manager twice, he in turn has spoken to the cleaners, as have I; to no avail. So I guess so me kind of legal procedure would be appropriate at this stage, like an inspection or something like that. Any useful advice on what the next step should be? ( I should add that my college is suffering from digestive problems and she suspects the b leach in the microwave might be the cause. thanks a lot Unfortunately the microwave is not allowed to air which results in fumes rising in the morning and the bleach is used not just to remove stains, but instead of a washing up liquid on large quantities of cups ( my floor has about 50 of staff), so concerns rise about residue from not rinsing. I have addressed the issue to my office manager who is also the health and safety representative, my line manager knows a bout i guess (I haven't made formal complaint though). p.s.I am prevented by my contract to join a union. p.s.2 i live in the uk
How do i make a legal case against my work place in the UK? I will expalin...? Recently i hurt my back while lifting a box at work. I then told my boss (via text message) the next day (i was off on this day) i will not be able to work the following day as i have been hurt. He replied with a text saying i need to orginise with the people at work to cover my shift as it was his day off. My position is Team leader, but i am not a manager and i imagined my boss (the department head) would take some responsibilty seeing as i was hurt. So effectively he 'passed the buck' onto me to try and find cover. I called the other team leader (my Brother) and explained the situation. He ask all the other Team leaders (2 others, one was not able to come in on that day and the otherc contract only requires him to work monday to friday, so he would not) So in the end i came to work on that day, after what i feel is a form of emotional blackmail, as my boss was abusing my repsonsibilties of making sure the work was done. I came in on the next day as well but left after about 3 hours as i was lying on the floor at some points not able to stand. I went to the doctor and he diagnosed that i had torn the ligaments or sprained the muscles in my spine, and subsequently gave me a 1 week sick note and strong medication. i have been off since, however i got word today that my boss will not be paying me for the time i am sick. I thought if it is an injury at work then they are obliged to do so. I am not sure. and plus this sunday he has not organised cover again for my shift so he is doing the same thing and coercing me to come to work when i have a sick note stating i am off until the monday. On top of this the place breaks numerous health and safety rules, and i even had my boss threaten my job with a text message once (about 2 weeks ago) because i did something that the store manager told me to do. Of course that has nothing to do with this incident but it maybe can further demonstrate how unprofessional he is. Do i have any grounds for a legal case or am i in the wrong??? On a side note, i did fill in an accident report form the day after the incident, and prior to the whole thing i was suppossed to recieved health and safety training, but delivery was big and needed to be processed and so i asked my boss if i should go for the training on that day and he said "Forget it". Exact words. Thanks for feed back so far, both positive and negative. Dont worry. I am fully aware that most will not have legal knowledge here but i am trying to build a solid argument before i take any action as to not incur any legal charges if i was one of those peopel that try and find a problem and simply use the system to my own ends. I also dont want to be fired due to any actions i may take. Also why i am asking here first. Perhaps there are people who have had similar experiances and can guide me in the right direction. Not sure exactly what my contract states about sick pay, i will need to check. The only snag i can see is that i have a 20 hour contract but i am doing 45 hours at the moment. and i was told once i am on the rota that is legal contract then.

Is L'Equipeur the only place to get safety boots in Montreal? I have been looking for quality safety boots (CSA approved) in town and I don't like the selection at my nearest L'Equipeur store. What safety control practices are in place for medical workers when drawing blood? I have been freaking out about stds lately so I went to a STD clinic to get tested.
