Why was my Urine sent to a lab for testing? Went yesterday to an occupational health center for a pre-employment drug screen test and was told that the results would be available today if they did'nt have to send to the lab. Well I just called and it was indeed sent out, but for me not to worry. I am, as I smoked pot about 3 weeks ago. I have been prepairing for the test that long , 3 weeks (lots of water,..etc ) So, should I worry?

I am taking a drug test today. Are THC limits standard? I'm taking a drug test today at an Occupational Health Center. I have a home drug test to make sure I'm ok before I go in. Am I safe in assuming that if I pass my home test, I'll pass the one at the clinic? Are THC limits pretty standard test to test? If it matters, I am doing a 10-panel test, processed off site. Is it possible im pregnant? Im on birth control pills but Ive messed up and missed pills a few times. I missed my period this month so I took two different pregnancy tests and both came back negative. I have no symptoms of pregnancy other than increased hunger and weight gain and the missed period. Recently I had to get a physical at an occupational health center for my job. The doctor was pushing on my stomach and he said "Oh, are you pregnant?" I said no and he seemed perplexed. Is it possible that I am pregnant and the birth control pills are messing up the pregnancy test results? I'm 28 and married so if I am pregnant it wouldnt be a terrible thing. Can't find a doctor to sign my medical release for police academy fitness test...? So for the last few months I have been training hard for this physical fitness test to enroll in the local police academy. Today I was going through the letter mailed to me months ago and I found a medical release form that I completly forgot about that NEEDS to be signed before getting tested. I called my family doctor and he is on vacation (of course) and the on call doc won't do a physical. I called my works occupational health center and they basically stated they could not get me in until Monday (even though its like 7 friggen questions that would take them 30 seconds). I work in a hospital and asked the ER doctor but he said he wasn't allowed. I have pretty much exhausted all options i can think of and the paper needs to be signed by tommorrow (Saturday April 19th). Anyone have any ideas that may help me? If i don't go to the testing then I have to wait 6 months till I can retest. Everyone keeps telling me to sign it myself, but I don't want to be dishonest or get in trouble.

Couldn't get blood out of my veins + I have a needle phobia!!? I have a phobia of needles, and today I went for a blood test at an NHS occupational health centre. Because I have a phobia, they put EMLA cream on. 2 hours later, the nurse tried to take the blood. She got into the vein but no blood would come out. The veins had flattened down and were almost invisible on the treated area, but were raised on the untreated area! She has now sent me to get it taken at the hospital in a few hours. What can I do to get my veins stick up and dilate as much as possible within the next few hours?! Thanks

Can anyone help me with deciding a career? I am asking for help from anyone who can help guide me to the best possible career for me. I want to find an online college that offers an associates degree in health and nutrition for children. I want to go work for my local Children's Medical Center, or If I can't get there, then I want to work with children. Children make me happy and they make me laugh. Having a career working with them would make my life less stressful and I hope I can make a really good living by doing that. I have looked and looked for online colleges, and haven't seen any that offer associate degrees in wellness and nutrition(or health). I have seen respiratory,occupational,and physical therapist assistant degrees, but I am afraid those are hard to understand careers. Will a graduate school of health science accept me if I have no relevant work experience? I am trying to get into either a graduate entry Nurse-Practitioner or Occupational Therapy program (more likely Nursing), and I've been trying to apply for jobs at places that are relevant to health care (e.g. dietary aide at nursing home/hospital/rehab center, developmental service worker, pharmacy technician, etc.), and nowhere near where I live is hiring for those kinds of jobs. I have applied at all of them and they're either not hiring or won't work with my school schedule, so I'm at the end of my rope and have now been applying at banks and stores, but I'm worried that if I work at a place like that instead of something relative to health care that I won't get into any of the grad school programs I want. Do you think it makes that much of a difference? I'm so worried for my future. Lori: There are several Nurse-Practitioner programs that don't require you to be an RN already. They just take an extra year (so you can get your RN first as part of the program and work for the remaining two years while you study). Also, I have been/am taking the prerequisite courses. On many occasions I have had to deal with people with tact, diplomacy and assertiveness and I believe my maturity and experience would be of great benefit to the nursing staff I will be working with. Over the past 8 years since leaving school I have been working in a customer service capacity with the travel industry in varying roles. The heath centre genuinely deals with occupational health, inoculations and any health quires including clearance to fly for passengers. With the passenger screening unit there was a lot of problem solving going on and this is really where my interest in nursing is. I am also very interested in accident and emergency care as I work well under pressure and am very interested in emergency care medicine. I am now ready to pursue a career and am very excited to return to studying. I feel my maturity and interest in the subject will help me to excel in this field. I understand that if I achieve over 60% in my exam results within the first 2 years then there is a possibility to change to the degree course and this is my plan of action.

Can IEP services be denied because a child has outside medical care? My 6 year old daughter with cerebral palsy, optic nerve hypoplasia, hypotonia, ect. She has physical and occupational therapy one time a week and doesn't arrive at school that day until noon. (Doctor has ordered "early in the day, early in the week" because of hypotonia and fatigue) We are going as early in the day as we can (8:00am) and have failed to find a rehab center open on Saturday or Sunday. So school hours have become our only option. This is doctor ordered and is imperative for her health. Today, at our IEP meeting we were told that she would not receive special education services for that day and all missed work would be sent home. They said this is because her physical and occupational therapies are not educationally related. This is what happened last year in Kindergarten and it took my daughter 2 hours each night to finish her homework to make up the missed work. She became so stressed about school that she sees a psychologist for school related anxiety. She fatigues very easily and does not have much energy left after a full school day. The director of the county special education department told us that the law stated that they are not required to serve her on that day, nor are they required to have a teacher help her make up the work. I cannot get home from work! My employer will not change my shift!? I have set shift patterns in work i work for a large well known company in a call center, I travel approx 5 hours a day in and out of work at all sorts of hours of the day, I was planning to move closer to work however this has now changed and I can no longer get home at 10:30 at night.... I would be stranded about 30 miles from home. My boss refuses to change my hours and advised the only way this could be changed was on medical grounds, I done this on the fact i have epilepsy ..... the occupational health advised there was nothing she could do as it was an HR issue My question basically is ..... does my employer have an obligation to ensure I can get home at night.? im not asking for the money to get home, and i am not asking for major changes all i need is 1 hour change.... it just seems rude when there answer is im sorry not our problem if you cant get home!

Geography Professor or Health Care Professional? I am a recent college grad at a crossroads since I do not know which career to choose. I am undecided between: Geography Professor - I love geography! But sometimes interest doesn't always mean career. Professorships are difficult to find. Registered Nurse - Best job security and good salary. I am scared of needles! Occupational Therapist - I get to be creative with my therapies as it can adapt to any life situation. Blends elements of health care with rehabilitation. As you can tell, I am most interested in health care and education. What draws me to both fields is that it is very student/patient centered, and caring and innovation in my career is something I value. I am anxious about the teaching careers as salaries are not as high as the health care professions, however I feel that I am more interested in social sciences subjects. It's not that I'm uninterested in health sciences, as I have a wide array of interests. I would like a profession that would guarantee me a high salary, job security, as well as respectability. (I know this sounds like a dream job, but I believe it is doable). As of right now, I am leaning towards the fields of Geography and Occupational Therapy.

has anyone had a similar experience with their health and mental health services? at my last gp practice that i was with a year ago, they were very aloof, dismissive, patronizing , argumentative with me when i would make appointments about things i was worried about, i got exasperated one day and had enough, i said sternly to the doctor , '' i dont come here to be spoken to this way by my doctor or health professionals, im going to make a complaint '' - i then walked out and i made a formal complaint with an external agency. they incorrectly logged i had an aggressive outburst and put it in my medical notes - i left there of my own accord , because their attitude was very hostile especially after id complained. the present GP practice im with, they seem to have a fairer attitude but still seem a bit alien and aloof , abrupt. plus you can't choose which doctor you want to see in the practice , you have to see the doctor you chose when you joined the surgery , the doctor allocated to you.. anyone else have the same experience at their surgery ? ive had psychological disorders most of my adult life due to an unbelievable sh!t unfortunate life, and my experience with the psychiatric services has been bitter and miserable - not always had consistent help of therapy or diagnoses , slipped through the net , struggled to get proper help. 2 years ago i was diagnosed with BPD personality disorder and my psychiatrist agreed i need intensive psychotherapy , psycho-dynamic therapy , but theres no resource for the therapy in my area, so im having to take what their offering which is occupational therapy to get me integrated back into society because ive been isolated and a recluse for so long. my psychiatrist has no power over what services are available or whats on offer he can just recommend - from my observation. ive suffered with these symptoms all my adult life : impulsive aggressive outburst, struggling to control rage and aggression, losing control of conduct , paranoia that people might be against me, panic and anxiety about being outside thats turned into agoraphobia - racing , scattered thoughts everyday , forgetting things, post traumatic stress symptoms , panicking perceiving threatening behavior from other males , reacting with intense severe aggression. fluctuating moods everyday , severe depressions one minute , feeling ok the next - nightmares , flashbacks. ive suffered alot of things in my life like bullying, attacks, being singled out , head injuries in a street attack because i lost control of rage - time in a mental hospital. had an unbelievable sh1t existence so far - im now 31 nearly. my psychiatrist said all the symptoms i have are basically as a result of my traumatic life experience and that i have no mental illness or psychosis . he said i have good intellect and great insight into my problems. he is adamant i dont have a mental illness like bi polar or another mental illness. he refuses to prescribe any medications because he said they dont work in the long term and can be incredibly addictive, and they wont work for me. even though i asked for some medication that is non addictive to help with my symptoms... like i said individual psychotherapy is not available in my area due to no resources and no funding - so im having to take what their offering which is the occupational therapy to help me ' practically ' to exposure therapy to my fears and anxieties - to get me integrated back into society to attend resource centres etc. im hoping the therapy i asked for will become available at some point, the 1 on 1 psychotherapy. although im a bit in bewilderment that they' re resolute about giving any medication. has anyone else had these type of problems or experiences with their services ? i worry im on my own with this treatment and sh1t service and everybody else is getting the right, ideal help and support except me from their health services.

has anyone in the uk had the same or similar experiences with their GP & health - mental health services? at my last gp practice that i was with a year ago, they were very aloof, dismissive, patronizing , argumentative with me when i would make appointments about things i was worried about, i got exasperated one day and had enough, i said sternly to the doctor , '' i dont come here to be spoken to this way by my doctor or health professionals, im going to make a complaint '' - i then walked out and i made a formal complaint with an external agency. they incorrectly logged i had an aggressive outburst and put it in my medical notes - i left there of my own accord , because their attitude was very hostile especially after id complained. the present GP practice im with, they seem to have a fairer attitude but still seem a bit alien and aloof , abrupt. plus you can't choose which doctor you want to see in the practice , you have to see the doctor you chose when you joined the surgery , the doctor allocated to you.. anyone else have the same experience at their surgery ? ive had psychological disorders most of my adult life due to an unbelievable sh!t unfortunate life, and my experience with the psychiatric services has been bitter and miserable - not always had consistent help of therapy or diagnoses , slipped through the net , struggled to get proper help. 2 years ago i was diagnosed with BPD personality disorder and my psychiatrist agreed i need intensive psychotherapy , psycho-dynamic therapy , but theres no resource for the therapy in my area, so im having to take what their offering which is occupational therapy to get me integrated back into society because ive been isolated and a recluse for so long. my psychiatrist has no power over what services are available or whats on offer he can just recommend - from my observation. ive suffered with these symptoms all my adult life : impulsive aggressive outburst, struggling to control rage and aggression, losing control of conduct , paranoia that people might be against me, panic and anxiety about being outside thats turned into agoraphobia - racing , scattered thoughts everyday , forgetting things, post traumatic stress symptoms , panicking perceiving threatening behavior from other males , reacting with intense severe aggression. fluctuating moods everyday , severe depressions one minute , feeling ok the next - nightmares , flashbacks. ive suffered alot of things in my life like bullying, attacks, being singled out , head injuries in a street attack because i lost control of rage - time in a mental hospital. had an unbelievable sh1t existence so far - im now 31 nearly. my psychiatrist said all the symptoms i have are basically as a result of my traumatic life experience and that i have no mental illness or psychosis . he said i have good intellect and great insight into my problems. he is adamant i dont have a mental illness like bi polar or another mental illness. he refuses to prescribe any medications because he said they dont work in the long term and can be incredibly addictive, and they wont work for me. even though i asked for some medication that is non addictive to help with my symptoms... like i said individual psychotherapy is not available in my area due to no resources and no funding - so im having to take what their offering which is the occupational therapy to help me ' practically ' to exposure therapy to my fears and anxieties - to get me integrated back into society to attend resource centres etc. im hoping the therapy i asked for will become available at some point, the 1 on 1 psychotherapy. although im a bit in bewilderment that they' re resolute about giving any medication. has anyone else had these type of problems or experiences with their services ? i worry im on my own with this treatment and sh1t service and everybody else is getting the right, ideal help and support except me from their health services.

Why do health professionals wear scrubs/coats in the public? I lived near a university medical center and during lunch hours there are always many doctors and nurses wearing scrubs/coats walking around in town. I thought occupational garments are supposed to protect staffs and prevent disease spreading. Doesn't that pose a threat to public safety? If a patient cough in your vicinity, the bacteria/virus could be attached to the clothing. I used to work in a lab with mice and we NEVER wear lab coats outside the building. I would be grateful if health professionals don't wear hospital scrubs/coats outside.

What is likely to happen with being off work sick? And lying about why I was off? I started work in February (this year), and have had 5 instances of sickness, which I have mainly put down to stomach ache. I recently got a new manager, and she is much stricter than my old manager, and is looking further into my sickness. For quite a while I was not eating wheat under the impression I could be a coeliac, but recently started eating it again, and have found I only get stomach ache when I am at work, or on my way to work. It's a 0 responsibility job in a call centre, and there is no reason why I should be stressed, but on the whole I would say I am reasonably highly-strung. The most recent event at work is that I have been referred to occupational health, for which I have an hour long appointment. I know that they're not trying to 'catch me out', my old manager was in the meeting with my new manager, and he was very kind and helpful. They discussed that I should be going to a capability hearing, in which they would talk about whether or not I am capable of doing my job. They know, and I know that I am more than capable of doing my job. I'm now worried, that as I am acutely aware that of the chances of me being a coeliac are slim-to-none, but the chances of me being depressed i'd put money on. I have disguised this, lied about this as used the coeliac thing to cover it up. If this is discovered by occupational health, does anybody know what impact this could have on me? I don't want to have time off work with depression, alot of people suffer from it and handle it much better than I do. I almost feel like they would treat me differently if they were to asses me as depressed- however I am not unsure that they treat me the way that I would expect already- as it is probably only me who won't admit it. I work for local government at a day care centre and this has now closed with the majority of the staff receiving redundancy whilst a couple have found other work. Hepatitis C asked on pre-employment questioner ? Is is legal to ask an employee on a pre-employment health questioner if they have ever had or have Hep-C??? I have already passed all the other test, drug etc. and now I have to go to the occupational dept and see a Dr. and take my health questioner and job description with me. This is for a CALL CENTER POSITION, so why would I have to answer that question, I dont want to lie but I dont think it is anybodys business if I have Hep-C if I will not be working with anybody elses blood or body fluids??

While we all would enjoy it greatly if such a bill were written in plain language to say, for example,"the state has no jurisdiction over us," the reality is that a bill like this has to be couched in language that allows it interface with the very laws it is trying to exempt us from. Thus, the possibility of misinterpretation. In the long run, this bill will actually HELP all practitioners, because it will allow them to increase their visibility without fear of prosecution or harassment by the state, and thus allow them to reach a broader cross section of the population with their services. I need career advice!? To anyone who can help me... I am having a very difficult time deciding the best career path for me. I have wrote numerous messages on here trying to seek help in a career and I still haven't figured one out. All I know is that I believe I would love working with children like in a hospital setting. They have a Children's Medical Center near me which specializes in all conditions of sickness in children. I just want to find a very rewarding career out there that can be for a man and a career that pays very well with great benefits. I want to be able to love what I do and not worry about an endless job for the rest of my life. I have checked in physical therapist assistant, nutritionist/dietician, occupational therapist assistant. Those career fields I thought are made for people who want to help others and make a difference in someone's health. That is something I am interested in doing, and I want to find an online college for that. Can anyone help me out? I'm at mercy here!

"When you have no competition, the prices keep going up and up ... the public option is going to force them to change, to bring down their prices -- hopefully," said Phoenix mobile home salesman Bill Zaffer, 61, who backed the measure. Opponents argue that a public option would hurt competition because the government program would have a cost advantage by virtue of a huge member base, but supporters of the public option say there is no real competition without it. Inclusion of a public option has become one of the most contentious issues in the debate on healthcare reform -- President Barack Obama's top domestic priority, which seeks to cut costs, improve care and regulate insurers. I missed my period this month so I took two different pregnancy tests and both came back negative. I have no symptoms of pregnancy other than increased hunger and weight gain and the missed period. Recently I had to get a physical at an occupational health center for my job. The doctor was pushing on my stomach and he said "Oh, are you pregnant?" I said no and he seemed perplexed. Could anyone list services that are available for developmentally disabled children in Maryland? Besides speech, occupational, physical and behavioral therapy, I wanted to find out if there were any other services. Are there any Centers dedicated to address the children's needs particularly? Where I live, there is an agency D.D.D (Division of Developmental Disabilities) that provides referrals for families to accomplish many tasks that can be hard to complete with and/or for our kind of children. My child has autism. This agency I'm speaking of provides assistance finding pediatric dentists that have experience with children like my child. Also, they provide home health aides to come into your home to assist with the child for whatever reason you may need them to, whether it be to stay with the child while the parent runs errands, or just needs a break or a nap, lol. Financial assistance is available for purchases for the child as well. Income is not a factor, your family could gross a million dollars and you will still be eligible. I would like to know if Maryland has this?
