Occupational Health Check for nursing course and being underweight: Help!!!!!!!? OMG im really panicking about my occupational health check for a university nursing course. Ive weighted myself and im only 7 stone, i dont know why. This sounds really bad doesnt it. Could being underweight for my age and height cause a problem (im 23, about 5'4 in height) I told my mom and she said it may be a problem, i may need need to be a certain weight to be a nurse. Someone please tell me this isnt true!
Does an Occupational Health Nurse have to have qualifications? This very large company I worked for refuses to reveal this person's qualifications. Do you think they have something to hide? This is even when ordered by an Employment Tribunal. What do you think?
How do I put together a Business Plan to set up as a freelance Occupational Health Nurse? After working for a number of years for a service provider, I have decided to go it alone. I will need a lease car and about £3000 pounds worth of equipment and training (updates) and would like to approach a Bank for funds. I have never had any experience of putting together a business plan and any help/advice would be appreciated, including useful web sites to visit. many thanks in advance of advice offered.
Does an H R Manager have access to occupational health files? I am an occupational health nurse and the hr manager is insisting fot the keys to the medical records and it looks as if i could loose my job as I have refused him access
Will poor sight in one eye make me fail a university occupational health check for nursing? I had a squint as a child and had surgery to correct it. This eye has poor sight but my sight is perfect in the other eye and I do not require glasses. I have been offered a place at university to study nursing this year and have to undergo an occupational health check which I know will include an eye test. Will this stop me from getting on the course? I am otherwise physically fit and healthy and have passed all other tests to get onto the course including a numeracy and literacy test. I also completed an access to nursing course this year which involved a placement on a ward which I did well in and had no problems. I do not believe my problem with the sight in one eye will affect me working as a nurse at all as I have such good sight in the other eye. Is there a chance they could stop me getting on the course?
can an occupational health nurse over rule a gp sick note? if an employee is covered under the dda for thier illness and has a live gp sick note can a occ health nurse over rule this and state that the employee is fit for work and must return to work
Occupational health overruled gp's fitness for work certificate is this legal? I am just wondering if I could get some help and advice with regards to returning to work if occupational health have said you are fit but your fitness to work statment from my GP had not lapsed. I was back to work before the fitness for work had lapsed. I suffer from post natal depression and was signed of as being unfit for work by my GP for 4 weeks, my health visitor who had been seeing me also agreed. I had been reviewed by GP, medication changed and another 'sick line' for 4 weeks was given (as she thought I was still unift to return to work). Just a couple of days after this i was reviewed by the trust Occupational Health Nurse. She bascially said it was 'lifestyle and social issues' and that being back to work would be beneficial to me. She made feel pressurised to return to work even though I had explained that I was still having problems. Post this just a couple of hours later I had my ward manager on the phone to me saying that I have been declared fit to work and when could I be back on duty. I was shocked about this and felt that I was being made go back too soon, but as I was told that Occupational Health had declared me fit I was to be back. So because of this I did not disagree or argue with her as she was my senior and ward manager. Since then I have seen my GP who has disagreed with her decision and has also said I should not of been back to work as he had not signed me off to be back. He has now given me a further signing off for being unfit for work for 2 weeks. I dont know what to do as I am concerned what implications this will have to me, my job and with my ward manager. I am totally confused and very upset with this situation and I would just like some information and help to see if there is anything i can do or what is right and what isnt.
What is an occupational health screening? I am going to do a nursing degree and it says i have to have an occupational health screening. What is this? What kind of things do they ask and does anyone have any other information on it? Thanks

can I work as a public health nurse with just an associates degree (RN) in nursing? I am 48 and have to start a new career, but I don't want to work in a hospital. I like the thought of working with the public. I should also add that I am trying to pick between becoming an Occupational Therapist Assistant or RN. This is the most serious decision I have ever had to make and with my age, I need to make it as soon as possible.
Im beginning a Mental Health Nursing course and worried about scars left from self harm? Ive had a uniform fitting and i know they are short sleeved. I am emotionally stable (the occupational health made sure of this by writing to my GP) I self harmed last about 2 years ago but i have an arm full of scars which im often quite reluctant to show around strangers. I dont want this holding me back and i will not allow it. But i am worried about the reactions of other students on my course and colleagues as well as the other allied health professions i will be working with. I dont know how to deal with it and i know ill be stuck for words when asked (as well as feeling ashamed) If anyone has experience on this it would be nice to know how anyone coped and the reactions. Thank you all (Im located in the UK)

Occupational Health Visit? Hey i've been offered a job in a local council doing computer support, but yesterday i recieved a letter about an appointment i had to attend to see the Occupation Health Nurse for a check up. As its only a computer based job what sort of things will they be checking for do you think? Someone said it was just for the pension scheme and it would likely be a chat, but does anyone know better? If i fail it could they retract their offer of a job? Thanks
I am (hopefully) moving to Connecticut from the UK and want to know about nursing here? I am a registered nurse, have worked for 18 yrs, currently as an Occupational Health Nurse, but have my critical care nursing qualification and worked in intensive care for 6 years as well as operating room, what do I do to practice and get a work visa? I am so confused by the different requirements, I cann't e-mail the board of nursing as you have to supply an address and it won't except non american addresses and phoning is difficult as I am working when america is awake. (My husband has a job offer there hense the move)
nursing information.......? okay so im in the health cluster in high school and as of this point im pretty certain i want to be a nurse, either a certified nurse midwife, an occupational health nurse, nurse practitioner, or an RN in recovery rooms or Neonatal ICUs if you're one of these nurses could you tell me about the education requirements, salary, duties, and just about ur experiences and why you chose it to begin with... basically all about it from ur perspective thank you
Is it possible to study nursing at university while still self harming? I'm already getting help for this so I don't want any comments telling me I'm stupid for doing it cause I know I am and so on. Anyway I applied to study adult nursing last year but failed my occupational health check due to not being in any kind of therapy for my self harm. I now am in therapy and have another university occupational health check coming up. What i was wondering is do I have to have completely stopped to be able to pass this health check?
Will I still be able to become a nurse after my visit to occupational health? I have recently started an apprenticeship in a maternity ward and hope to become a nurse, I have a visit to occupational health in a couple of weeks. I am worried because I was diagnosed with depression over year ago when I was 16 years old and have a history of self harm. I have not self harmed for over a year and have overcome my depression without professional help, I have also just turned 18. I now feel that I am mentally well and that I could handle the stress of working in a hospital setting. Self harm is probably my biggest regret and although I only have a few scars that will be visible in my uniform - it is still obvious how I have gotten the scars. Thanks for your replies :) Also to those telling me to consider another profession, people do things as teenagers that they later regret in life. Self harm does not make somebody mentally unstable for the rest of their lives, it is a coping mechanism that is usually overcome as they grow into an adult. I had a bad childhood and I would prefer if this did not impact on my future and my aspirations, so please if you have nothing constructive to say to me, don't say anything at all.
Which Health Care Career pays most, License practice nurse or Occupational therapy assistant? Occupational therapy assistant(OTA) and license practice nurse(LPN) are my two choices, but which one pays the most??? I know LPN is easy but OTA is fine as long as I am happy to get a career. I am in College and choosing between OTA and LPN(They are my dual major!!!)

I would like to know the pros, cons, good, bad, ups, downs, all of your thoughs on the careers. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated.
Occupational Heath for University Nursing Course? What does this mean? Is this a health check up with the university? What will they have to do. I was just told that i have to go to a certain room regarding occupational health, so im wondering why i have to go there. Sorry if i sound thick, but they dont exactly make things very clear at my university. STOP POSTING SHIT ON HERE. How do I become an Occupational Therapist? I am going to talk to advisors within the next week or so but until then can someone give me some info? At my school, in the College of Health Professions, there are a few different departments listed: kinesiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, etc. I want to switch my major and become an occupational therapist. Is occupational therapy a major or would I switch to Kinesiology?
nursing school in UST? I am strongly considering UST. Because I heard UP is really hard to get in to compared to UST. Plus it is nearer to my place (New Manila). So how is nursing school in UST? Hard? Or easy if you study seriously? Oh one more question, which one should I take if I were to work in America? Career Options: * Institutional Or Hospital Nursing * Community Health Nursing * Private Duty Nursing * Industrial Or Occupational Nursing * Military Nursing * Flight Nursing Or Aerospace Nursing * School Nursing * Clinic Nursing * Independent Nursing Practice * Pharmaceutical Representatives * Nursing Education
Question about nursing? If you have been sectioned, and have a history of mental health issues will you pass the occupational health to become a mental health nurse? Its just I'm applying to do the diploma this year and have a history and am worried I'm wasting my time, I really want to use my experiences to help other people.
Can I study nursing with a history of addiction? I have an offer to study nursing at a prestigious university. However, I have been in treatment for heroin addiction for over year and my place is subject to occupational health checks. Will I be able to study with my medical history? I will be off all medication by the time my course starts. My councilor has advised me not to mention my drug problems but I'm scared if I don't let them know before I start that I'll be found out and expelled. *over a year
Will I be able do a nursing degree? When I looked at application for a nursing degree they said I would have to have an occupational health check. I currently have PTSD, will this stop me? It is now fully controlled with medication and therapy. I live in the UK.
Can my work sack me over this? i've been off with a frozen shoulder for 4 weeks now. Although the pain is away, the doctor has said my job wil aggrevate it as i do heavy lifting alot. i asked my work twice to move me to another department which they wont. Now today, i have a meeting in work with the occupational health nurse. Should i get another sick line from the doc or go to work and grin and bear the pain?
Which one of these health sciences are closely related to nursing? 1) Physical Therapy 2)Occupational Therapy 3)Physician Assistant 4)Physical Therapist Ast 5) Occupational Therapist Ast 6)Accupuncture & oriental medicine THANK U!
What can I expect from Occupational Health? I have been referred to OH through management, apparently there is concern about the way I have been at work. The couple past couple of years I have had a few stressful events that I have made feel rundown, bereavement, job changes, family issues, my recent job as much I do love it (nursing) I have found it stressful. It really has all made me feel exhausted, down and feel like giving up on everything. I have expressed that I want to leave my job but there is always someone constantly telling me otherwise giving me a reason to stay in my job. I was originally asked permission to be referred I agreed but later on I was told that it was an appointment that I cant refuse. What can I expect from an appointment? Will this go against me at work? I have never taken time off work for ill health other than when I came into work and I was sent home because I obviously unwell from flu. I have started to take antidepressants which have been really helpful
can nurses specialize in two health care field? for ex. Anesthesia and Occupational health.
What health occupations does the military offer? I'm aware they have their own surgeons, nurses, and occupational therapists. Can anyone provide me with a complete list of all the different types of health careers that they offer? Do you have to do ROTC to work for them? And will they help pay for your education?
Occupational health check in the NHS? I am applying for jobs in the NHS, But worried about the Occ Health checks that they do. If you have attempted suicide, self harm, have depression/anxiety do they not employ you? I have previous problems (around a 1 n half ago) but have been on meds n have been stable (and planning to go to the docs to reduce meds in the next week - will this make me unsuitable because I'm still on meds/reducing meds). Thanks for any help. On the application forms I have put no mental/physical problems because technically I have recovered and they aren't any - but do you still have to declare them? And will they be a meeting with a nurse when they find out? I'm so confused/scared about it.
Do you need experience before going to nursing school? I'm a senior, and I think I know I want to be in the medical field,..but i dont wont to take the Health Occupational Class at school..it's filled with little bratty girls who still think like a 3yr old. Would i be able to handle it straight off. Do you think I need to talk to my local hospital to see if I can do some Volunteer work or some kinda training?
What are some health related professions that pay at least 40,000 a year? im currently a nursing student but ive noticed that im not really into the "hands-on" care thing...well not THAT much anyway. What are some health-related professions (excluding physical and occupational therapy) that have LESS contact with patients but still make at least 40,000 a year?

Dont want vaccinations for nursing course? Im starting a nursing course (mental health) in a few weeks and I went to the occupational health at the uni for a check up. The nurse said she would give me the mmr vaccine on that day and an hep b vaccine later. I said that Id already had 2 hep b vaccines and 2 mmr vaccines asd asked if she could do a blood test to see if im immune then id consider the vaccines. She said no she wanted to give the vaccinations first then do the blood test. I don't agree with it so will probably have to leave the course as she said Id be classed as unfit to practice if i dont have them. Seriously though how am I in the wrong? I dont trust vaccinations enough to have more than I need its just pointless Ive even had measels as a child lol. yes I have shown them the records that i had them
question about needing vaccinations for nursing course? Im applied for a nursing course in mental health and occupational health unit say I need to have another mmr vaccine and hep B jab or I wont be able to practice. The thing is Ive had mmr as a child its supposed to provide long life protection. I also had 2 hep b jabs in 2007. Im not sure that I really trust vaccines I don't want the side effects of the mmr vaccine the side effects can include a rash, fever and seizures I just don't want to take the risk because I have an healthy immune system and so am confident I could fight off measels if I happen to get it Ive been vaccinated as a child anyway. It makes me wonder are all these vaccines really mainly for my benefit?? Or are they for the benefit of the public/patients, herd immunity etc?

how well does Xanax work for severe panic attack? i had a bad episode of an anxiety/panic attack at work yesterday, i took rivortil and that did nothing to help calm me and i ended up in the occupational health nurses office and being collected by my husband, me still in a right state. the nurse told me to go to my GP and get something more effective that the rivitril to be kept in the medical office at work for future use, should i have an attack as bad again. my GP gave me Xanax. does it work well and calms you etc? any advice from other users or ex-users of Xanax is appreciated. the dose is the 0.5mg tablet by the way. thanks in advance for any answers
Is it constant glove use causing this? My hands tend to be dry, cracked and flaky but the worse part is the tinny tiny pinprick lumps i get on my palms and fingers that look like blisters!? in my job it requires that I wear rubber gloves (like you see at the docs) all day everyday to protect the work not me. In general my hands can be a little sweaty but at work it can get so bad it'll be dripping down my arm from the gloves, its so uncomfortable:( seeing the company's occupational health nurse he swapped me from latex to nitrile gloves believing i had a slight latex allergy. I was then off work for several weeks from a surgery and my hands cleared up totally, now im back it took 3 weeks for my hands to go back to their sorry state and now the company nurse is getting inpatient with me. I believe wearing gloves suffocating in sweat everyday cant be healthy right? Oh and they are not itchy..rarely please help
Hand tremors? Hi, I'm mildly dyslexic and dyspraxic but I don't think this has anything to do with the hand tremors I have. I've had them for as long as I can remember, at least since I was ten but they weren't very noticeable back then. I'm now 22 and my hand tremors have gotten bad enough to worry me. They have developed from what used to be a slight shake that i could stop if i concentrated into a more annoying shake I can't completely stop any more. Something else which may be unrelated is my left index finger now spasms regularly (since 2 weeks ago). The occupational health nurse asked me a few questions: Do I drink enough water - Yes Do I drink much alcohol - I binge, but rarely Has my eyesight gotten worse - No She said she didn't know and if I was concerned to see my GP. It'll be a while before I can book an appointment, does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on with these shaky hand of mine?
Can anyone suggest claiming disability allowance after a car crash? I had an accident in my car during the beginning of October and am now recovering. My car was written off due to the effects of another car hitting it because of freak bad weather. I have suffered a head injury and scarring due to what happened and have been advised to not drive again for six months and avoid alcohol for a year to allow my brain to heal. My occupational health nurse suggested that i seek some kind of disability allowance cos i am now off work. What do i do about this? Any help with this question will be gratefully received. I will appreciate any stories of what people have been through themselves and what help they are receiving now. My apologies if you have suffered. Thank you.
will i get in uni to train as a nurse if i have osteoarthritis? I have osteoarthritis in my left shoulder, will this stop me from getting in university to train as a nurse. I know you have an occupational health check before and your GP has to fill in your forms. I hope this will not stop me as i manage the condition myself with glucosamine and pain killers when needed.
Nursing question, please help? Hi i'm doing a nursing observation next week and we have to write a paper on it. One of the questions they ask is what definition of health is used in the worksite or program (eg hospital, health unit, occupational health program)? In what ways is this definition similar or different from what you are coming-to-know about the meaning of health-hint: start with medical, behavrioral, or socioenvironmental perspective. What does all these questions mean??
Should i go to my doctor? I'm supposed to be starting a mental health nursing course but first i have to see an occupational health doctor and there going to get a referal from my GP as i have BPD, anxiety and a history of self harm. If i went to see my GP would they be able to tell me wats on my records and what they're goin to put in the report? or would this just be wasting their time?
Can you work in health care with hep c? My good friend has been on the phone to me tonight crying her eyes out because she thinks her future may be ruined. Her partner has hepetitis C and now she is concerned that she may have it too but is too scared to get tested for it. Her ambition is to work as a midwife or a nurse, she is at college right now doing some higher education in health care and doing gcse as she didnt get her exams at school, then she wants to go on to uni and train as a health professional. She is now petrified that she will not be allowed to train, or if she does she will not be given a job if it turns out she does have the hep C infection, she says she is thinking of just packing in her studies right now as its going to be a waste of time! I feel awful for her and desperatly want to help her through this but I have no idea on where she would stand in getting into a nursing or midwifery course. My understanding is that the virus is passed on through blood only so surely she wouldnt be able to pass it on to patients? Nurses wear gloves to protect themselves and their patients, it would be her dealing with their bodily fluids and blood and they shouldnt come into contact with hers right? But I just dont know where she stands cos you have to pass an occupational health check to get onto the course I think and do they test your blood? I would have thought they do? If anyone can help or direct me to any website that would be fantastic, I feel so awful for her and would love to hear she is worrying without need to! sorry, to the person who says about vacination, there is no vacination for hepetitus C ??!!?? There is for Hep B but not C Im sure.
Do you think my personal statement is adequate for apply for a nursing diploma? I found it quite hard on where to start and wanted to keep it to the point what do you think? I understand working as a Nurse will be very challenging and stressful at times. The skills I have acquired so far in my current role as Cabin Crew will assist me in becoming a nurse. I am a disciplined person who has encountered many difficult situations whilst working with customers and has always maintained a cool disposition focusing on my role and the level of service we provide. On many occasions I have had to deal with people with tact, diplomacy and assertiveness and I believe my maturity and experience would be of great benefit to the nursing staff I will be working with. Over the past 8 years since leaving school I have been working in a customer service capacity with the travel industry in varying roles. I have gained many skills and qualities especially from my current role as cabin crew. A lot of the skills are transferable to caring as a big part of my job is looking after people. I regularly have to deal with ill passengers and always wonder what the after service is when the ill passenger leaves the aircraft. I enquired to our health services department if I could have a shadow day to see what nurses and dentists get up to behind the scenes. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff and genuine care the patients received in the heath centre. The heath centre genuinely deals with occupational health, inoculations and any health quires including clearance to fly for passengers. With the passenger screening unit there was a lot of problem solving going on and this is really where my interest in nursing is. I am also very interested in accident and emergency care as I work well under pressure and am very interested in emergency care medicine. I am now ready to pursue a career and am very excited to return to studying. I feel my maturity and interest in the subject will help me to excel in this field. I understand that if I achieve over 60% in my exam results within the first 2 years then there is a possibility to change to the degree course and this is my plan of action.
What are the nurses occupational hazards (including safety and first aid)? i need this for my health care report.. i'm so helpless.. i just feel lazy... can u plz provide answers for me?? plzzzzz... ^_^

Does anyone have any suggestions for people-oriented careers? I desperately need career advice, please! I currently have a B.S. in Psychology. I would like to get Master's degree someday, but probably not a Ph.D. I would like to have a job where I can help people and "make a difference", but I'm a bit squeamish and don't really like the idea of seeing blood, vomit, etc. while on the job. Money isn't the most important factor for me, but I would like a job where I can make at least a decent living. Some careers I've considered before include: 1) Speech-language pathologist 2) ESOL, Special Ed, or preschool teacher 3) Occupational therapist 4) Mental health, career, or school counselor 5) School psychologist 6) Industrial/organizational psychologist 7) Environmental scientist 8) Sonographer/ultrasound technician 9) Baby or women's health nurse (maybe...) Does anyone have any opinions on the above careers? Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for careers? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!
Are health professionals forced to live differently? A patient was incredulous to learn that I, as a student nurse, drink alcohol. I was just answering the question honestly, and not promoting it or anything. I feel since I've started this course, everyone is expecting me to act like a saint? I've never been like that. I drink and have sex and generally have off days where I'm not happy to come home and act as my flatmate's medical dictionary. Do you, especially doctors and nurses, feel this certain pressure? I am constantly plagued by a previous anxiety diagnosis that pops up on my occupational health - I aint Florence Nightingale but it doesnt make me a bad nurse (student)! I think one thing is being a good example at work, and another to be forced into a role in your personal time. Thanks, I know it sounds funny but what do you think?
Which undergrad degree is the most versatile? My college offers the following degree programs: Biology / Biotechnology Business Administration and Economics Chemistry Communication Sciences and Disorders Communication Computer Science Criminal Justice Education Health Science History & Political Science Languages & Literature Mathematics Nursing Occupational Therapy Philosophy Physical and Earth Sciences Psychology Sociology Urban Studies Visual and Performing Arts Women's Studies Of these, which area of study would be the most flexible and allow me a large window of career opportunities? I am not a math or science person so please don't pick any of the sciences, nursing, or math. I think I would like to work with the elderly in some way, possible as an Activities Director/Coordinator or an Events Planner. Thanks for your help.

Is this class a good step towards becoming a Doctor? My school guidance is NO HELP. I was wondering if this course is a good start towards becoming a Doctor. On page 23 (First Option: Allied Health) http://www.mcvsd.org/shared/ST_Course_Gu… It says occupational: • Home Health Aide • Patient care assistant • Medical assistant • Nurse’s aide No Doctor. Is it still a good start as oppose to just taking normal classes? Thanks in advance!
Nurse Practitioner or Occupational therapist? Who's a more respected member of the health care team? Do they both have high salary potential? The amount (# of years) of education is basically the same, right?
career options for a nursing student? I am currently a nursing student about to graduate in December with a BSN. I am just starting to think about which graduate degree to pursue, because where I want to go for that will determine where I search for my first nursing job. Interests: rehab (physical therapy, occupational therapy) counseling/mental health teaching/patient education evidence-based practice empowering others and motivating change international relations/working with foreigners emergency medicine, OB, home care, cardiac leadership/management crisis intervention writing, both creative & scholarly work holistic health alternative medicine I'm about half introverted, half extroverted, depending on the circumstances. I like working alone, but believe in team work. I have considered physical therapy/occupational therapy school, NP or PA, master's in counseling or PhD in therapy... any advice or suggestions? thank you both for your help!
I dont know if i should still be on citalopram still? I have had anxiety issues for years now, I had aghoraphobia as a teen and a couple of isolated panic attacks but became to stressed in January 09 with high workloads that I broke down and just could not stop crying. Doc put me on 20mg citalopram, which helped to get rid of the tearful periods and calmed my anxiety a lot. With it also came numbness. I felt nothing, couldnt cry when I felt sad or anything. but I was just so greatful that it helped me get through the days. Anyway I finished uni and work in May 09 and stopped taking them. This wasnt a particularly conscious decision, it was just that I forgot more once I didnt get up at stupid o clock every morning, and plus I had no stress or anxiety, as I had finished uni and was unemployed, so just felt they werent needed. I do suffer bad PMS symptoms that leave me with some depression every month, which is really the only time of the month that I feel bad anxiety and depression at the moment, but obviously you cant just take the tabs whenever you feel sad. It has to be regular or nothing. I recently got a job and went for a medical and the occupational health nurse was concerned that I had come off the tablets by myself. I thought that I might start taking them again once I start the job (to combat associated anxiety invovled in starting a new job), but I dont know. I'm not the sort of person who likes popping pills for anything and everything, so am really unsure what I should be doing. Thanks for any thoughts.
Pre-occupational therapy? So i'm currently a nursing student but feel that I will not be able to handle the needles and blood. I am very interested in going into occupational therapy or health promotion/public health. My school offers a degree in psychology and a minor in health. Along with taking the required pre-reqs for a masters in OT (anatomy, sociology etc.) and completing observation hours, do you think I will be qualified to get into Occupational Therapy school? or a job in public health? if you have any information on either of these careers please let me know because the semester is ending soon and I need to decide on my classes for next semester! :(
I cannot get the treatment I need? As a nursing student, I feel I cannot go to get help for my mental health problems and depression/anxiety. all of this gets logged into all my files and everyone has access to all my records, and i have to pass regular occupational health checks constantly just to stay on the actual course. what can i do to seek help? I have previously had help for this a while ago, but this was way before and i am claiming to be better but really i am not at all. i just said that to pass the checks. i dont think it would really impact my work, because i work hard and im good at hiding it but something has to give if i am thinking this way. i have to be careful as i need to declare what im being prescribed etc. hmmm im worried. "have you ever been diagnosed with anxiety/depression? If yes, give dates" - occupational health dept at uni.

Some health care career questions? I had been, for quite a while, planning on going to college for nursing. Recently, though, I was at the Cleveland Clinic with my Anatomy class and I found Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy interesting. Now I'm caught between the two and I'm not sure how to decide. Could anyone give me some pros and cons and info or something on both fields and your opinion?
Medical fields involving some creativity? Are there any medical jobs out there that involve a mixture of creativity and health? I've thought of art therapy, an activities assistant at a nursing home, occupational therapy, etc. Are there more that I am missing? I have always been a bit of a creative person and I have an interest in the health and medical field. I also have an interest in mental health. Combining health and creativity would be awesome. Any ideas?
Please suggest some games for a group of mentally incapacitated geriatric patients.? I am a student nurse and we are currently assigned to a mental health institution. We are tasked to interact and provide some recreation for 12 patients in geriatric ward. We also conduct health teachings and occupational therapy appropriate for them. We still need about 3 games to be played in between therapies. We have tried "name that sound" and it succeeded. "Pass the message" didn't went well. They are divided into two 6-man group. Please suggest additional games.
Why so very many foreign Muslims in the U.S. Health System when Islamic states need them so much more? Doctors, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, etc, etc... is it all about the money? If not ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, then why don't they just stay in their Islamic States which surely need them more or go to third-word countries which clearly need as many Medical Professionals (in all Health Field disciplines) as they can get their hands on? I'm sure there are some foreign Muslim Health Professionals in third world countries, trying to do their part, but there really is no comparison to the influx of foreign-Muslim Doctors, etc. the U.S. has seen over the past 20 years especially. Spiritually, many Muslims will tell you they do not strive for "money" to commission a "rich-life"... (or is this just converts saying this?). So what's really going on here?
I am driving myself up the wall ! I had a chat with my manager...? And well she seems very understanding. She told me that if I have a problem speak to one of the nurses where I work and then we will take it to Occupational Health if we need to. How do I approach this nurse? Shall I say the my manager has asked me to speak to you, I'd like to talk to you when we have time..
Should I pursue OT or Nursing? ? I have a BA in psychology. I am taking courses in anatomy & physiology at the moment because I know I want to work in some sort of health field. My options are as follows: BA in Psychology / Masters in Occupational Therapy BA in Psychology / AA in Nursing I know it is ultimately up to me, but what route do you think is the best? Money-wise, opportunity-wise, etc. School load comparisons. ...Whatever you know or want to contribute! And I have another question. I have been reading alot of posts about how having a BSN may give you a bit of an edge over leadership and advancement as a nurse. Do you think having a psych degree and an AA in Nursing is just as good? Or do yuo think I should go beyond this, and apply to an advanced BSN program (for people who already have degrees in something other than nursing.) This will take a little bit more time, as the program I am looking into requires about 3 additional science courses beyond a&p.
Changing majors....wanting to become an occupational Therapist...? I am currently a nursing major but want to switch and become an occupational therapist. I know I do not want to stick with nursing, and don't think that I could finish nursing school with high enough grades to be accepted into any masters programs. I really like psychology and health and was wondering if a major in Psychology and a minor in health, along with required pre-reqs and volunteer hours etc., would prepare me to get into an occupational therapy program? and incase I can't get into occupational therapy, are there any other options for me with an undergrad in psych/health? incase I need a career to fall back on... I really like health and helping people. I was thinking public health or counseling?
Where can I look to find out the roles of these health professionals within a MDT? (a definition of each)? •Nurse •Doctor •Physiotherapist •Occupational Therapist •Ward Manager •Speech & Language therapist •Community Psychiatric Nurse

Which is a better career? Physical Therapist? Occupational Therapist? I'm very fickle about deciding once and for all on a major and everything. I'm fairly certain that I want to be in the health field, and I'm currently enrolled for Health and Sciences, which is broad and helps prepare for more schooling. I don't know whether I'd like Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy more. Or even recreational Therapy. I'm just going by a career aptitude test I took a while ago, and all of those are listed.. along with Chiropractor. and others. I know nursing isn't for me already. Anyone have some advice? I haven't even been in a health setting really because I've never been sick with anything. BAH!
Health insurance transfer question? My grandmother recently had a stroke and has both medicare and a secondary insurance. She has been in a nursing home for the last couple of months getting occupational therapy. On April 19, the secondary insurance found that it was not medically necessary for her to continue receiving care at the nursing home while medicare found it was medically necessary. They also said they would knock grandma off the policy. I would like my grandfather to change secondary insurance companies; however, believe the coverage denial and knocking off the policy might hurt the propects of grandma being able to get coverage. Should the determination be challenged prior to any insurance shift?
What kinds of occupational complaints do service workers have?Would unionization may be able to help resolve s Is there any reason why a "new collar" worker would not want the same benefits and clout that "blue collar" workers were able to get by unionizing? What might be some of the reasons why a "new collar" worker would be hesitant to join a union? What do you feel are the future prospects of unions in the service industry? Why? Unions now represent only 13.2 percent of the labor force (called "blue collar" workers). If the figure goes much lower, unions may become irrelevant as a force in business. The answer, many union organizers believe, is to now organize service workers (clerical workers, insurance agents, nurses, teachers, mental health aides, computer technicians, loan officers, auditors, and salespeople). It is expected that most of the future job growth in the United States will be in service businesses. The question is whether or not unions will be able to win over service workers (also called "new collar" workers). There are some 20 million such workers, more than the AFL-CIO’s current 13 million members. To reach these workers, labor unions have to broaden their traditional bread and butter (money) appeals to include quality-of-work concerns such as career development, professional autonomy, and dealing with technological change. Thus unions may push issues such as pay equity, career ladders, child care, job training, and stress management. Workers will also have to be won over by successful union marketing. Most service workers are not very familiar with unions, and there is some resistance to union organizing. Nonetheless, unions have made some progress. A recent survey found a growing discontent among non-union workers over pay and job-advancement opportunities. More than 75 percent feel that unions generally improve pay and working conditions. The survey indicated that 53 percent of non-union service workers would react favorably to having union representation. Some unions that have had success recruiting service workers include the Service Employees Union, the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, and the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees. One union that is doing a particularly good job of listening to employee needs and adjusting to them is AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. The union’s campaign emphasized issues such as workplace dignity and safety, pay equity, and career development. One worker who joined has a complaint that many new computer workers have. She keys information from tax forms into computers, and her work is monitored to see if she meets daily goals. If not, she receives warnings. This management style is greatly resented by some workers.

Nurse, Doctor, or something else in health care? 1. Yes, I already know that "Nurses can work anywhere, are in demand, blablabla...." No offense, but I've already heard that like a hundred times. 2. Is med. school REALLY worth it? 3. Do Occupational Therapist (or Physical Therapist) know more about medicine/disease than a nurse, but less than a doctor? 4. Do family practitioners ALWAYS work 70 hour weeks, even with a private, rural office? 5. What are some other med. careers that deal with disease and condition care, and extensive medical terminology? also, if im goin to school for 6 years to be a PA/NP, im willing to go to med school for 5 more years. lol. im sorry my question is so long. Thank you all for answering it!
job opportunities in the health field? Hi! so...I'm going back to school and I can't decide between Occupational therapist assistant and associate of nursing...I know you can make much more money as RN but also...OT seems to me really interesting... my question is about job opportunities in the OTA field as well as pay, as a RN I know there are several... I'm kinda scared because English is not my native language; I am a US citizen but I used to lived in Mexico w/ my parents and just moved here about 2 years ago when I got married...I have taken a lot of college classes (Psychology, math, arts, sociology, history, etc) and have passed them all w/ good grades, so I'm assuming its not the listening/understanding...I think Im just embarrassed to speak it and also there are some word that I don't know what they mean...is it possible for me to get into the program with not being native english speaker? ..how about getting a job?? do people hire you as bilingual OTA or RN??? I think with the time passing I will be more involved in the language, I have taken classes but they didn't help at all, they were kinda lame, they just teach you what you already know... Thanx everyone
