How much space does OSHA specify i need between a tank and a wall? How much space does OSHA specify i need between a tank and a wall? I have found specs on doorway clearances, but not elsewhere. I have some tanks near the exterior wall on the exterior of the plant. What minimum clearance should there be between the tanks and the plant wall? Reference if you can please! thanks! I am new to this. Tank contain ammonium nitrate solution, and other tanks beside it with various compounds including AN. In another part of the plant, a tank holds oil, while another one holds kerosene. Is there a requirement on tank spacing as well?
OSHA fines for poor air ventilation in the workplace regarding large commercial solvent based printers? I work for a company that uses a large format solvent based ink printer. This company has been in business for at least 2 years and has never had any type of ventilation. The room seems small for the large printer and an air filtration units' filter, currently in place, has not been changed for over 6 months. These types of printers produce large amounts of toxic fumes. What kind of fines could this company be facing if they are not up to OSHA's air quality standards?
How hard is it to reschedule a meeting with OSHA? I have a meeting with OSHA today to give a sworn statement, but I feel uncomfortable and unprepared to do so because last week my attorney was too busy to go over my documentation w/ me. What should I do? Go anyway?
Can I file an OSHA complaint if my work refuses to turn down the heat and I get sick? In my office in our local hospital, it is always really really hot. My officemate and I have two fans, dimmed lights, and it's still hotter than hell in there. We've had to get ice packs and put them on the backs of our necks just to be comfortable enough to work. We've tried and tried to get them to turn down the heat, but it nothing ever gets done. Would an OSHA complaint help?
What is the probability that OSHA will find that your air quality violates the standard? 7.Suppose you own a factory that uses lead in its manufacturing process. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) limits the amount of airborne lead in a factory to 3 particles per cubic meter of air. You are about to be inspected by OSHA and you know that you have an average of 2.5 particles of lead per cubic meter of air. The inspector will tests three cubic meters of air. What is the probability that OSHA will find that your air quality violates the standard? This is a probability question. Need to use Poisson here.
Does OSHA have a limit on what individuals should lift? My company is expecting a select few of us to lift equipment which weighs in excess of 200lbs. We told them this is unreasonable and they replied "OSHA doesn't have any guidelines!" In other words lift it or find a new job! This has got to be BS!
Does OSHA require a person to wear steel toe boots when working near an asphalt roller? The company I work for requires all employees to wear steel toe boots. I don't feel it is safe for our paving crew to have steel toe boots on when working so closely with asphalt rollers and other heavy equipment. Seems to me the steel toe would cause more damage in that situation. I just want to be able to go to my supervisor with this issue and know what I am talking about. The crew just doesn't want to have to wear them if they don't have to. Also, can our company still require us to wear steel toe boots even if OSHA says we don't need to?
According to OSHA regulations for a Dental Assistant, do I have to pull my hair up? I just started a new job as a dental assistant..The dental assistant who is training me said I MAY have to put my just-above-shoulder length hair up, but she wasn't sure according to "OSHA" regulations. Does anyone know? Just wondering because i HATE wearing my hair in a ponytail but if I have to, then I'll deal with it.. Thanks.
What are the OSHA rules (if any) for mascots or people wearing similar types of costumes? What are the OSHA rules (if any) for mascots or people wearing similar types of costumes? I was working as an Easter Bunny and was totally unaware of how horrible it was. I was so hot it was ridiculous and I could barely breathe. My employer got angry when I kept lifting my mask to get air or when I lifted it to get a drink. Their rules were ridiculous and I was just wondering if there was any official rules to a job like that. Thanks.
How to generate a letter to OSHA regarding false alleged conitions.? I just received a letter from OSHA regarding "FALSE" alleged conditions at my medical office. I know it was an employee who was fired and now, I am paying the consequences. I need help generating a letter to respond back within 14 days. The codes & alleged conditions are: wires everywhere, and boxes blocking aisle ways. Can someone please help as I want to be extra careful with this letter. Thank you
Why not give Bar and Restaurant Employees an OSHA approved mask? The SHS issue when it comes to the employees in the bars and restaurants, it would seem to solve a lot of problems. They could even supply them to customers that want to hang out, but don't want to breath in SHS. There are lots of companies that supply their employees masks, Hazmat,Welders, Fireman, Techs the list goes on and on. On second thought why didn't OSHA force bar owners to supply masks to their employees, in the first place, if second hand smoke is so dangerous.
OSHA and Policy on smokeless tobacco and no gloves? Alright, I'm rewriting a training manual at work and I'm am having no luck on the OSHA site find policy on fines that may be placed on individual employees and those who don't report on smokeless tobacco and not wearing gloves in a medical office. Anything you can help will be most helpful! Thanks.

The room seems small for the large printer and an air filtration units' filter, currently in place, has not been changed for over 6 months. What is the weight lifting maximum for a 50 yr old man in ct under osha guidelines ? The reason I am asking this question is, the place I work has just aquired these 80 to 100 lb. blocks to build a retaining wall near the side of the road. I need to know if I can tell my emloyer to "F" off because I am not required by osha standards to lift such heavy blocks. This retaining wall is very very long and about 4 to 5 feet high. This would require my employer to come up with some way to get these blocks from the pallet to the wall location ( i.e. a small crane attatched to a pickup truck with some sort of strap to hold the block, to lower the block into position as we guide it into place on the ground. )
What are the scientific or OSHA definitions of dust, fog, etc? I'm reading the OSHA respiratory protection standard. It mentions "dust, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors". With biological safety we commonly refer to aerosols. There's also the (I'm guessing) general classification of particulates. Terms like these seem to often be used interchangeably. What are the official, legal, scientific definitions of words that describe these types of phenomena? There may be overlap between the terms above, or maybe more are needed. I want to be able to use them correctly when I write. And when somebody asks me!
Is there any law or OSHA regulation that states how many hours an employee can work before they get a break? Is there any law or OSHA regulation that states how many hours an employee can work before they get a break? I live in Ohio, near Dayton b/c i'm wokring for a LARGE corporation that just opened a new store and i have on several occasions worked 7 hours without any form of a break. I am also wondering if there was any regulation/law on how far in advanced a company is bound to post schedules? (and not waiting until the day before to post the comming week). Relevant replies would be much appreciated.
Is it an OSHA Violation to stand a pallet on its' side? I am having a disagreement with the construction manager at my company and would appreciate any specifics anyone can provide. I have heard that it is an OSHA violation but can't find anything on it. Is it unwritten but covered under the general duty clause?
What are OSHA's policies about air quality in factories? I want to know how OSHA gets involved when air quality is questioned. What are the standards as far as air quality in the workplace goes? Do workers need proof of illness caused by poor air quality in order to get OSHA and the health department involved? Thank you!!
If an employee files a false work comp claim do I put it on my OSHA 300 report? This employee filed a claim saying he was injured on the job. We paid for him to go to the doctor. The doctor said the problem was degenerative disk disease and not caused by his work. We paid about $1,800.00 for the treatment and diagnosis and I filed an accident report with the state. Since the problem was degenerative and not work related, I don't have to put that on my OSHA report do I?
OSHA Regulations concerning loads that are too heavy? Would anyone know what the OSHA regulation is concerning a electric lift table? My foot got caught under one at work and 2 toes were broken. There are no guards at the table area from preventing your foot from getting underneath the table when it is in the upright position. I am being compensated and I did have steel tips on,what I need to know is that, is there an OSHA regulation that says there should be some sort of guard there to prevent someone from putting their foot under the table so an accident like this does not happen.
would a manager OKing a safety feature on a machine be bypassed an issue for OSHA? I work for a company that uses static electricity to apply a highly flammable substance to its product. and the plant manager allowed fire suppression equipment to bypassed in order to allow production to continue. when i questioned the situation i was answered with snotty remarks and enough spin to drive a presidency campaign. does anyone think this is an issue for OSHA or another safety organization to look into?
What company do you go to when OSHA isn't doing their job? I am pretty sure they are being paid off. Employees have purposely done things that cause a hazard in the workplace when OSHA has been here and they do nothing. We can't get the safety equipment we need because we are told it is "too expensive"
Will you help me answer this question about OSHA? I have a bit of trouble answering this for a Business Law class. Here's the question. An official of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspects the Carroll Corporation, a manufacturing company. The official finds safety violations and orders the company to correct them within a certain number of days. The company refuses. In court, Carroll Corporation's attorneys argue that OSHA acted unconstitutionally because it performed all three functions of government. How would you decide?
Can my employer require me to use my insurance to cover OSHA mandated medical exams? As a healthcare worker I am under a mandate by OSHA to have Tuberculosis testing done every year. My current employer is required to assure compliance but informs me that I must use my own health insurance to have it done by my own physician and they will cover the co-pay. All the employers I have had in the past have had agreements with hospitals or occupational health agencies to provide this testing free of charge to the employee.
what are osha requirements for confined underground work? Recently I was (asked?) by my employer to work in a storm drain 13 feet underground with a giant plug holding back a lake. The drain was 400 ft long with no ventilation and we had to use powder cement. Now I feel ill and injured from walking on my knees. The only thing provided were particls masks. Dont really want to be unemployed wth the current economy so what can I do?
Is it legal for my employer to refuse to pay employees to attend a 10 hour Osha class? I live in Georgia. The company I work for gave letters to approximately 20 "lead men" stating that we are required to attend a 10 hour OSHA training class. The class will be held on a Saturday. This is in addition to our 40 work week. The letter states that the meeting is "mandatory". No mention of pay was made in the letter. When someone inquired, they were told, "The class itself is $400 per employee. The company is absorbing that. The employees should be thankful that we get to attend for free." That was from the project manager. When I asked my foreman about it, he told me, "Sometimes you have to take one on the chin." I am furious at the audacity of this. Can someone who is familiar with labor law, please inform me to the legality of this? What steps (if any) can employees take to insure we are paid? What repricussions could there be if we refused to attend, or just didn't show up? Thank you.
OSHA Training Rules for light replacements? I am hiring a contractor to change out lights (old bulbs that could contain PCBs) and replace old mercury switches. What type of OSHA hazardous waste training should the workers have?
