Why does BP have a terrible safety record? BP has a long record of oil-related disasters in the United States. In 2005, BP's Texas City, Texas, refinery exploded, killing 15 workers and injuring another 170. The next year, one of its Alaska pipelines leaked 200,000 gallons of crude oil. According to Public Citizen, BP has paid $550 million in fines. BP seems to particularly enjoy violating the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, and has paid the two largest fines in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's history. (Is it any surprise that BP played a central, though greatly under-reported, role in the failure to contain the Exxon-Valdez spill years earlier?) With Deepwater Horizon, BP didn't break its dismal trend. In addition to choosing a cheaper — and less safe — casing to outfit the well that eventually burst, the company chose not to equip Deepwater Horizon with an acoustic trigger, a last-resort option that could have shut down the well even if it was damaged badly, and which is required in most developed countries that allow offshore drilling. In fact, BP employs these devices in its rigs located near Great Britain, but because the United States recommends rather than requires them, BP had no incentive to buy one — even though they only cost $500,000.

The Miners in Utah, Minnesota and the Miners in China. Your thoughts? In China according to the Associated Press, it's not uncommon for at least 10 Chinese Miners to be killed in the mines every day! My Mother's Father, my Grandfather use to be a coal miner in West Virginia. He eventually died of lung cancer due to the silica and carbon that's contained in the coal. I remember him telling my Uncles never to work in the coal mines because it's way too dangerous and that eventually they too will develop lung cancer from constantly working the mines. I know in West Virginia, the guys that work in the mines earn way beyond minimum wage. I don't think it's a money thing with the miners as much as it is a "family" thing. My prayers go out to the families that affected by these multiple tragedies.

Why is the bill so.. hated? "This morning, I woke up to my radio alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly run by a state agency and supported by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Now, if you read all that, you would notice that the government already regulates much of our everyday life. What is so bad about them regulating healthcare? Depending on where you get your information, it will increase or decrease our debt (our debt has been increasing since Reagan, and now it's getting attention, since people are losing jobs and the economy took a hit). I don't understand how you can blame Obama, for amassing a debt such as this. It's quite obvious he hasn't done much to help the situation as of yet, but it's not like he will be leaving office in one month. The Healthcare Bill will take time to reach it's full potential (which is SO FAR from what it could have been), and only time will tell if it will have paid off. I'm sorry for the wall of text, and I'm certain people will disagree, but I'm sure that people are okay with sharing opinions. So really, why is the bill hated? Why can't people take the time to see if it works?

After spending another day of not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, I enjoyed another two meals which again did not kill me because of the USDA. I drove my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which had not burned down during my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal's inspection, and which had not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local Police Department. I then logged on to the Internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and found someone had posted on Yahoo! Answers how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right. THOUGHTS?? Seems some didn't even bother to read the post...too bad...it's full of facts. *sigh*
Does this mean I am I a hypocrite? This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration. At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school. Then, after spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, I drive back to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and the fire marshall's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department. I then log onto the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on Y!A about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.

Why do we need unions since we have a U.S. Dept. of Labor? Both on the national and on many state levels. The Dept. of Labor has eight major specialized divisions: the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, the Employment and Training Administration, the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, the Employment Standards Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Veterans' Employment and Training Service. A ninth division, the Office of the American Workplace, established in 1993, was terminated when congress failed to provide the necessary appropriations. The Bureau of International Labor Affairs deals with the interaction among U.S. foreign policy, foreign labor developments, and U.S. labor developments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, a direct descendant of the 1884 Bureau of Labor, gathers data in the field of labor economics. The agencies of the Employment Standards Administration administer federal labor legislation and the administration conducts research to support their programs; the agencies (and the legislation they administer) include the Wage and Hour Division (minimum wage and fringe benefits) and the Office of Worker's Compensation Programs (compensation for job-related injuries). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is responsible for ensuring the best possible U.S. working conditions in terms of safety and health. The Women's Bureau promotes the employment, efficiency, and welfare of wage-earning women. http://www.answers.com/topic/united-states-department-of-labor http://www.dol.gov/

BPs response to not allowing workers to wear respirators! peole are already sick! how do you feel about BPs? cover up? and lack of care for the workers? this is their response letter stating why they believe respirators should not be given out The Unified Area Command is committed to stopping the oil spill, cleaning the gulf and restoring normal business in the area affected. Our highest priority is worker safety. The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have assessed the risk and provided information on workplace safety and health for these responders; the guidelines can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/oilspillresponse/protecting/ The primary means of controlling airborne exposures to harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors is always to prevent, control, or remove the atmospheric contamination. In situations when exposures cannot be otherwise controlled, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, may be needed. Based on air monitoring data collected to date, exposures to hydrocarbons, dispersants and other hazardous chemicals are below established occupational exposure limits. In most situations that have been examined to date, mandatory wearing of respirators is not required. That said, respirators will be provided to response workers engaged in the source control activities and for vessels involved in burning crude oil. These respirators are provided as part of a comprehensive respiratory protection program. Respirators only need to be worn when air-monitoring results indicate an elevated level of air contaminants, or when professional judgment determines there is potential exposure, or when workers are reporting health effects or symptoms. Even when comprehensive and routine air monitoring indicates that no inhalational hazard exists, an employer may permit respiratory protection to be worn voluntarily by employees provided it will not in itself create a hazard. At this time, where air monitoring does not indicate a need, respirator use is voluntary and not recommended. The only situation where voluntary use may be helpful is when an individual is bothered by non-hazardous levels of hydrocarbon odor and cannot be relocated to another work area. In that case, a carbon-impregnated odor-reduction filtering facepiece respirator may provide some odor reduction potential—and can be worn voluntarily without the employer having to implement a respiratory protection program. These types of respirators do not provide health protective effects; they only provide odor reduction. Wearing any respirator will have adverse effects on breathing, vision and communication, will result in some discomfort, and may cause additional physiological stress. Wearing respirators, protective clothing, and other forms of PPE in hot environments can accelerate the onset of heat stress and exhaustion. Responders using any form of PPE, particularly dermal PPE, should be monitored for signs of heat stress, and take heat stress precautions (i.e., water, shade, rest) as needed. When workers have concerns about environmental conditions, they are instructed to stop the job and call an occupational safety and health professional to evaluate the environment. If the occupational safety and health professional determines that there is a potentially hazardous exposure or if workers are reporting health effects or symptoms, workers are instructed to move out of the area until the workplace is judged to be acceptable, or they may be instructed to utilize approved respiratory protection. For more information on health risks associated with oil spill response cleaning efforts, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/oilspillresponse/. Gross....before you go get that next Starbucks latte, read this (or don't) your choice.? http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/444195p-373976c.html Starbucks faces buggy rap BY PAUL H.B. SHIN DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Thursday, August 17th, 2006 Should it be Starbucks or Star...bugs? Current and former employees of the gourmet coffee chain filed a federal complaint yesterday claiming their corporate bosses have refused to heed repeated warnings about inadequate training and chronic infestations of roaches, rats and other vermin in New York stores. But the company strongly denied the allegations, noting the complaints were coordinated by a handful of activists who are trying to unionize the chain's normally merry band of baristas. Out of the 201 Starbucks stores in the city, the Department of Health issued notices of violation to 44 for rodent or insect activity in the most recent round of inspections, city records show. The complaints filed by Starbucks employees with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration focus on three stores - at Union Square Eas

Is Joe D. liable or Cem-Steel? Joe D. owned and operated a general construction business. He recently was successful in obtaining a bid to build a new athletic facility. Although his company could do most of the work, he needed to hire other contractors to do parts of the job, such as cement contractors and welders to lay the foundation of the building. He selected Cem-Steel as the subcontractor to lay the foundation and the steel work. During the cement work, Jane Sprint, an employee of Cem-Steel, was hospitalized due to the large number of cement particles she had inhaled. Her employer,CemSteel, had not provided protective mouth masks. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cites Joe D. for violation of its regulation about protective gear requirements.

Why will BP not learn- 16 deaths/170+ injuries/4 incidents since 2005 at same refinery? On March 23, 2005, a fire and explosion occurred at BP's Texas City Refinery in Texas City, Texas, killing 15 workers and injuring more than 170 others. BP was charged with violating federal environment crime laws and has been subject to law suits from the victim's families. Later an $87 million fine was imposed by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which claimed that BP had failed to implement safety improvements following the disaster. The Texas City Refinery is the second-largest oil refinery in the state and the third-largest in the United States. BP acquired the Texas City refinery as part of its merger with Amoco in 1998. It had an input capacity of 437,000 barrels per day (18,354,000 gallons or 69,477,448 litres) as of January 1, 2005. After the March explosion, other safety incidents occurred at the plant including three major safety incidents in 2005: On 28-July-2005, a hydrogen gas heat exchanger pipe on the Resid Hydrotreater Unit ruptured, causing a release of hydrogen that erupted into a large fireball. One person received minor injuries. The Chemical Safety Board found that a contractor had accidentally switched a carbon steel pipe elbow with a low alloy steel elbow during maintenance, causing a failure mode known as “High Temperature Hydrogen Attack” (HTHA). On August 10, 2005, there was an incident in a Gas-Oil Hydrotreater that resulted in a community order to shelter. This incident occurred when a hole developed in the bottom of a valve that handles high pressure gas and oil. On January 14, 2008, William Joseph Gracia, 56, a veteran BP operations supervisor, died following head injuries sustained as workers prepared to place in service a water filtration vessel at the refinery's ultracracker unit.
Is Carbon dioxide a pollutant? Due to the health risks associated with carbon dioxide exposure, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that average exposure for healthy adults during an eight-hour work day should not exceed 5,000 ppm (0.5%). The maximum safe level for infants, children, the elderly and individuals with cardio-pulmonary health issues is significantly less. Carbon dioxide is toxic to the heart and causes diminished contractile force. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide I'm asking if it's a pollutant? If it's toxic for us to breath then isnt it a pollutant? What if you live next to a factory or refinery that emitting co2? Is that safe? Is it a Pollutant then?
Which interest groups deal with OSHA? Please give specific examples of interest groups that involve the Occupational Health and Safety Administration
Does anyone know if this story is true? The other day I was talking to a stonemason and a roofer who were asked to do a job for a certain institution in New Hampshire. They were obliged to attend "ladder school," even though both have been working at the tops of high ladders for over 40 years. The gentleman for the OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) cautioned them against mocking his transparent waste of their time: Under the new administration, he explained, his bureaucracy would be adopting a more enforcement-oriented approach to private business. So they rolled their eyes merely metaphorically and consented to give up a working day because the federal government had taken the right to credentialize ladder-climbing form Maine to Hawaii. My professor brought this story up in class and asked us to find out if it was true or not. It could have easily been fabricated, but I want to know if anyone has heard of an actual event that took place. If anyone can find anything, please put a link to it in the answer.
Why do extremist conservatives who want to destroy democracy to have aristocracy think people won't notice? Especially when even moderates (moderates aren't liberals but in between liberal and conservative in case a lot of people didn't know what moderates are) can see what extremist conservatives such as corporate CEOs and their top executives, etc; have been trying to do and have turned their support away on a lot of issues from the extremist parties known as the republicans and the libertarians. In case anyone disputes about myself or others I know who are and just don't call ourselves moderates - I'm against abortion, I'm against the forcing of macro-evolution to be taught in public schools, I also believe in strong defense and strong immigration laws. On the flipside of that, I know it's stupid to have wars at the drop of a hat - for example the Afghanistan war I think is a war that's necessary to be won but even more especially that osama bin laden and his top sidekicks need to be captured and brought to justice, but the Iraq war that’s something that could’ve waited till later or perhaps even been avoided if somehow mysteriously sodom and gomorrah hussein got assassinated *wink*. On the subject of immigration, while I think there should be strong immigration laws - I think it's incredibly stupid to stop all legal immigration though and of which there actually is some people, who actually are that extreme that they think that. Aside from that, many of things President Obama's done thus far in regards to financial and medical reforms' made good and practical financial sense, because reforms were needed for a long time or else the U.S. would've been getting obliterated extremely bad financially in the future and even worse perhaps even the whole government and country of the U.S. would've fallen apart, because of arrogance of the privileged and the financially very well off people. Case in point about the arrogance and slavemaster mentality of the wealthy: Until Jimmy Hoffa and the unions came around and also before minimum wage laws, OSHA (The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration), besides other labor organizations protecting workers were started - working conditions at companies were so deplorable, besides the fact that so many workers were so abused - that such conditions and abuses were so bad that many workers actually had considered the horribly bad political ideas of anarchy or/and communism or other stupid extremes that was being given out as propaganda quite heavily to the workers who were in desperate states of mind about making a decent living around a century ago. My point is, that more or less even though Jimmy Hoffa became corrupt later because of dealings he made with mobsters - It was because of Jimmy Hoffa and the other people who started unions around America is people that saved the U.S. from having it's workers turn to communist, anarchist or fascist nuts. To those who doubt this - look at the history how middle class and poor workers were treated in the United States, including from the days of the Industrial Revolution to the days of approximately around the first quarter or third of the twentieth century - Look at THE LACK OR EVEN COMPLETE ABSENCE of - Work safety laws, overtime pay, safe workplaces/work environments, minimum wage laws, child labor laws, lawful reasons to fire or lay off people such as the fact that if employers demanded that their employees did things at work that is having them break laws - it's against the laws, etc. Plus to dispel more doubts about what I've mentioned - look at all the deaths of workers THAT WERE CAUSED BECAUSE OF BAD WORK CONDITIONS, besides of course work related injuries that happened before Jimmy Hoffa and others created unions and before there was OSHA and other labor and work safety organizations were around to stick up for the rights of workers. My point is with the details I made above is there's practical reasons why I and other people are moderates - I don't believe in being totally democrat or even worse - liberal extremism, just as I don't believe in being totally conservative as in republicans or the worse conservative extremes such as the libertarians. I and others are moderates for a reason - it's because we realize it's impractical and redundant to be extreme for one political side or the other because sanity and order and makes more sense. So with myself and many others who are moderates knowing that not only with conservatives wanting to have aristocracy instead of democracy, is not only NOT fair to most others including most Americans, but that it's impractical in the long run anyway, when it's applied especially to the extreme of having an aristocratic government allowing nothing but aristocratic economic idealogies - Why do extremist conservatives who want to destroy democracy to have aristocracy think moderates or other other people with a thinking mind won't notice the extremist conservatives' plans of aristocratic dominance/ Financial impulsiveness/arrogance/impatience? I also asked this, because of the fact that many people at online forums besides when the tea party rallies full of people who blindly never question the conservative propaganda being fed to them - had their people over this last year+, yelling and screaming at hard working people who are poor, middle class or/and sick with need of medical insurance, credit reform, etc; besides of course accusing the hard working people of being “commies”, “lazy”, besides other derogatory references, untrue generalities and stereotypes that people spew about people online, at tea party rallies or whatever other places.
Can we agree that we are not a nanny state? Nannys are nurturing. The govt is more of a bully? it has becomes the big brother that torments and bullies us and then takes what is rightfully ours: our savings, our freedom, and our futures. A bully disregards not only the wishes of those around him, but also the rules that may his restrain his power. A bully takes what is not his They all but nationalized the American auto industry (save Ford), overriding debtor rights and decades of law. They have also taken over chunks of the financial industry and, via their control over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, much of the housing industry. Many salaries will be set by the White House. any business that has job standards -- even legitimate ones -- that happen to result in fewer minorities being hired than the DOJ sees fit will be hit with the full might of the Justice Department, Eager to expand its power to bully businesses, the EPA is busy trying to regulate every carbon molecule out of existence The Interior Department has all but killed drilling offshore and in vast parts of onshore America, despite Americans' overwhelming desire to tap our nation's bounty of our concerns and of us. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is on a hiring binge to make sure the height of the steps in your business is centimeter-correct Obama will use his executive power to coerce businesses that receive government contracts to pay its workers what he in his imperial wisdom decides satisfies him and his union pals and promoters Mr. Dade was poor. Worked hard. Taught a great work ethic by mother. Try not to jump to conclusions. It is not an aerobic activity These answers are just asinine. Hate? Money is forced from us then wasted. Are these accurate Government proverbs? Some of these are really GOOD! No matter how much you cheat the government in taxes, you’ll never get close to being even. Trust me. (Tim Geithner, Treasury Secretary’s proverb) The people are not only our most precious recourse, but also a means of enrichment. (Proverb of the US Congress) For a lie to become believable it must be published in The New York Times. (Proverb of Democrat strategists) Teach someone how to fish, and you lose a Democrat voter. (Proverb of Democrat strategists) No matter how much whiskey you stock up in your desk, you always wind up sending an aide for more. (Ted Kennedy’s proverb) Attractive women are distractive. (Bill Clinton’s proverb) Child-proof electrical outlets are there to make sure that only the most gifted children get electrocuted to death. (Proverb of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)) If your wife isn’t talking to you in the morning, last night’s party must have been a success! (Clinton family proverb) A woman wants a lot of different things from one and the same man, while a man wants one and the same thing from a lot of different women. (Clinton family proverb) Having a tough day? Try changing your gender. (Janet Reno’s proverb) Government helps those who refuse to help themselves. (Proverb of community organizers) If necessity is the mother of invention, government mandate is the fairy godmother. (Proverb of carbon emission regulators) All that glitters must be equally redistributed to each according to his need. (Proverb of obama) Having naughty children in the back seat can result in an accident; having a naughty accident in the back seat can result in children, followed by a story in The National Enquirer. (John Edwards’ proverb) If you can’t lick them, tax them. (Proverb of the Ways and Means Committee) Give your opponents one hundred dollars worth of steak, and you shall receive one trillion dollars worth of pork. (Proverb of the US Congress) The difference between a kleptomaniac and a Congressman is mostly one of semantics. (Proverb of the US Congress) Don’t tax you, don’t tax me, tax that fellow who didn’t vote for you and me. (Found buried in a federal “stimulus” bill) All it takes to prove that I am the smartest guy in any room is for the rest of the people in that room to believe me when I say it. (Joe Biden’s proverb) Multiculturalism is when people of all races, colors, and creeds join hands in a common effort to blame the Jews. (Proverb of Columbia University professors)
Since Bush could instantly overfund the military, aren't his funding cuts worse than downsizing the military? Clinton's downsizing had nothing on the Bush administration's cuts in funds from almost everything you could think of: Funding has been cut for hospitals, Veterans' Affairs (VA) programs, pharmaceutical companies, Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), education K-12, education-education after high school, Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), libraries, alternative energy projects, worker safety and health grants, cancer and AIDS research, public health advocacy groups, fire prevention programs, flood prevention programs, airports, etc... The list goes on. He has used this to fund his "War on Terrorism". Therefore, the extra funds have been wasted because he has only increased the terrorists' recruitment drive and viciousness. C B, this is why he has cut funds. He doesn't cut taxes, but he does cut funds so that the debt won't grow too huge and have congressment yelling at him for it. Nice try C B, but you failed to contradict me. 2nd Answerer, I think if YOU check, we have only had this democrat majority for a measly 1.5 months. I am covering the entire 6.15 years our administration has been in power. Mahal, you gave me an unsubstantiated reason against 1 thing that I said, out of the dozens of things I said. You are really full of it. You cannot contradict me. Do your homework and find out. Maybe not Bush, but congress did overfund it instantly because most people were staunchly for the war. You know this.
Should federal scientists have the freedom to publicly communicate their findings; publish their work; ...? Should federal scientists have the freedom to publicly communicate their findings; publish their work; disclose misrepresentation, censorship or other abuses; and have their technical work evaluated by peers -- all without fear of retribution? There have been numerous and detailed instances of political interference with science within several federal agencies, such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Food and Drug Administration, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Environmental Protection Agency, National Institute of Health, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Several federal scientists have recently claimed that the Bush administration has created a hostile work environment within scientific agencies. Among their claims, reports being edited to misrepresent scientific findings, agencies reluctance to regulate products, scientific findings ignored in policy rulings, and resistance to scientific appointments. Examples: The Union of Concerned Scientists has created the A to Z Guide to Political Interference in Science that include several well documented examples: http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/interference/a-to-z-guide-to-political.html This question relates directly to global warming because there has been a huge systemic effort by the Bush administration to censor climate science and misrepresent scientific findings. For more information, listen to NPR “Science Friday” Science News Hour: http://www.sciencefriday.com/program/archives/200802151 . . . . . . . Mt. zion… I didn’t know that consumer protection, drug safety, and the environment were “silly issues”. It is OK to have different opinions and a different set of beliefs. It is not OK to have a different set of “facts” that are not supported by observations. Mt. zion… Also, federal scientists work for the public, and NOT for President Bush. Jim Z, I believe that there have been numerous examples of political interference with science BECAUSE there is extensive documentation of this, not because of political reasons. See the A to Z Guide to Political Interference in Science for specific examples: http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/interference/a-to-z-guide-to-political.html Dr Jello, you are wrong. I work as a nurse; and not only do I have the ability to report such things as Medicare fraud, alleged patient harm and abuse, wrongdoings, and misconducts, I have the RESPONSIBILITY to do so. The deniers seem to have a “Father’s Knows Best” opinion. Anyone who goes against what father has said is to be punished and silenced. They want top scientists to seek permission from “minders” before participating in an interview. Never mind that the public has PAID for this research and is entitled to uncensored results. Having political minders sounds much more like Iran than the United States, and I believe that our Democracy is in trouble. Also, Crazy Conservative, your argument that climatologists are just seeking more grant money fails the “logic” test. What the scientists are saying is that the science is conclusive, not perfect, but good enough that that action is now needed to reduce our greenhouse-gas emissions. Based on the strength of this conclusion, many politicians have started saying "the science is settled." If the climatologists were simply seeking additional funding, then they would be saying the exact opposite, that they are unsure of the cause of recent global warming. If you want to maximize funding, you say that the science is unsettled, not claim a scientific consensus the anthropogenic global warming is unequivocal.
Why don't people realize what an absolute JOKE the "stimulus" package is? http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/PressSummary01-15-09.pdf The above is a government link that breaks down the stimulus package... It seems to me that at LEAST a THIRD will not directly stimulate the economy... "Scientific Research • National Science Foundation: $3 billion, including $2 billion for expanding employment opportunities in fundamental science and engineering to meet environmental challenges and to improve global economic competitiveness, $400 million to build major research facilities that perform cutting edge science, $300 million for major research equipment shared by institutions of higher education and other scientists, $200 million to repair and modernize science and engineering research facilities at the nation’s institutions of higher education and other science labs, and $100 million is also included to improve instruction in science, math and engineering. • National Institutes of Health Biomedical Research: $2 billion, including $1.5 billion for expanding good jobs in biomedical research to study diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, and heart disease - NIH is currently able to fund less than 20% of approved applications – and $500 million to implement the repair and improvement strategic plan developed by the NIH for its campuses. • University Research Facilities: $1.5 billion for NIH to renovate university research facilities and help them compete for biomedical research grants. The National Science Foundation estimates a maintenance backlog of $3.9 billion in biological science research space. Funds are awarded competitively. • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: $462 million to enable CDC to complete its Buildings and Facilities Master Plan, as well as renovations and construction needs of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. • Department of Energy: $1.9 billion for basic research into the physical sciences including high-energy physics, nuclear physics, and fusion energy sciences and improvements to DOE laboratories and scientific facilities. $400 million is for the Advanced Research Project Agency – Energy to support high-risk, high-payoff research into energy sources and energy efficiency. • NASA: $600 million, including $400 million to put more scientists to work doing climate change research, including Earth science research recommended by the National Academies, satellite sensors that measure solar radiation critical to understanding climate change, and a thermal infrared sensor to the Landsat Continuing Mapper necessary for water management, particularly in the western states; $150 million for research, development, and demonstration to improve aviation safety and Next Generation air traffic control (NextGen); and $50 million to repair NASA centers damaged by hurricanes and floods last year. • Biomedical Advanced Research and Development, Pandemic Flu, and Cyber Security: $900 million to prepare for a pandemic influenza, support advanced development of medical countermeasures for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, and for cyber security protections at HHS. • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Satellites and Sensors: $600 million for satellite development and acquisitions, including climate sensors and climate modeling. • National Institute of Standards and Technology: $300 million for competitive construction grants for research science buildings at colleges, universities, and other research organizations and $100 million to coordinate research efforts of laboratories and national research facilities by setting interoperability standards for manufacturing. • Agricultural Research Service: $209 million for agricultural research facilities across the country. ARS has a list of deferred maintenance work at facilities of roughly $315 million. • U.S. Geological Survey: $200 million to repair and modernize U.S.G.S. science facilities and equipment, including improvements to laboratories, earthquake monitoring systems, and computing capacity" The above was copy and pasted straight out of the article so you can get a glimpse of it in case you don't want to use the link... How exactly is funding science research gonna stimulate the economy? Or provide jobs for factory workers who got laid off??

Is Joe D. liable or Cem-Steel? Joe D. owned and operated a general construction business.
Can someone summarize the article below for me..First person to summarize it get best answer? Manhattan prosecutors are expected to announce manslaughter charges on Monday against the rigger who was overseeing the raising of a tower crane on the East Side last year when it collapsed, killing seven, according to people briefed on the case. The rigger, William Rapetti, has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault in the spectacular disaster, in which the 22-story crane plunged across East 51st Street, piercing one building and tearing terraces off another, the people said. The accident, on March 15, played out across a two-block swath of the Turtle Bay neighborhood, leaving two dozen people injured and the streets strewn with rubble. The charges — including seven counts each of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide — are contained in an indictment that is expected to be unsealed on Monday, the people said. Mr. Rapetti’s company, Rapetti Rigging Services, will also be charged, the people said. All spoke on the condition of anonymity because the charges remained sealed. Mr. Rapetti, 48, of Massapequa Park, N.Y., was set to surrender on Monday morning, said his lawyer, Arthur L. Aidala, who noted that five of the seven people who died were friends of his client’s, men working with him on the crane that day. Mr. Aidala said he was confident that Mr. Rapetti, an expert in the operation and rigging of tower cranes, would be cleared. “He did nothing wrong, and operated at that site in a way that is beyond reproach,” Mr. Aidala said. The indictment, the result of an investigation by the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau, represents the first criminal charges stemming directly from a spate of fatal accidents involving tower cranes last year. Alicia Maxey Greene, a spokeswoman for Mr. Morgenthau’s office, declined to comment on the case. The March 15 collapse, and a second fatal collapse two months later, led to the resignation of the city’s building commissioner and the arrests of its chief crane inspector, one of his subordinates and a crane company owner on corruption charges unrelated to the collapses — cases that resulted from the scrutiny following the accident. The second collapse, on East 91st Street on May 31, remains under investigation by the Rackets Bureau in Mr. Morgenthau’s office, the same group of prosecutors that is handling the case against Mr. Rapetti and that brought the corruption cases, one law enforcement official has said. The two accidents, coupled with a series of disclosures about missteps by city agencies and others in the fatal fire at the former Deutsche Bank building in 2007, exposed the deeply flawed operations of the Buildings Department. In particular, the crane collapses focused attention on the department’s troubled Cranes and Derricks Division, where a handful of inspectors, some lacking in experience, were overwhelmed by the workload brought on by the city’s building boom. The charges against Mr. Rapetti stem from what one person briefed on the case said were “reckless and negligent rigging practices,” which caused the failure of four nylon slings that were being used to hoist a huge square steel crane component to the top of the crane. The component, called a collar, was being moved to raise the crane higher to continue construction, a process known as jumping the crane. Mr. Rapetti also failed to follow the crane manufacturer’s specification that the collar be supported by eight slings, the person briefed on the case said. One sling had “substantial pre-existing damage, including cuts and severe dislocation” that would have been readily apparent to Mr. Rapetti had he inspected it before use, as the building code and federal regulations require, the person said. When the slings ripped and the collar broke free at the 18th floor, it plunged down the side of the crane, smashing into a second collar and shearing it from the building before landing on top of a third collar near the crane’s base, destabilizing the tower. The weight of the crane’s cab then pulled the tower down. In September, federal regulators accused Rapetti Rigging Services of failing to inspect the slings, remove a defective sling from service, protect the slings and comply with the crane manufacturer’s specifications when raising or lowering the crane. Those citations, by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, carried penalties totaling $220,000 and included three willful violations, the most severe issued by the agency. Mr. Rapetti had been cooperating with OSHA’s investigation, said his lawyer, Mr. Aidala, who added that Mr. Rapetti came from a family of crane operators and had worked on the machines since he was a youth. He noted that Mr. Rapetti worked at ground zero operating a giant crane from the day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack until late that year, a job he won because of his skill and experience.
English excercise problem, native EL speakers help me please ? I'm not sure that i wrote the following announcement is correct and it makes sense , help me correct it : urrently, some workers who have no lift truck driving certificates are in need of driving forklift trucks in order to serve our manufacturing tasks. Therefore, the Department of administration would inform Department of manufacturing that sending us the worker names by January 19th, 2008. After those workers finish the training course : safety of forklift truck operators , they can drive forklift trucks in accordance with regulations on occupational safety and health while performing work. If any worker don't observe this regulation, he will be fired
I'm turning 16 in January, and I'm required by my school to submit a 'serious' job application. Help? So: a nearby medical clinic is looking for a junior secretary to work once a fortnight and public holidays, and I would like to apply for this position. Experience in the field is, obviously, not required. Could someone please help me write a cover letter? A couple of points that I would like to make: 1) I am serious about working in this field. Admin. is an integral part of the medical system; though indirectly, I would be helping people. In fact, starting July '09, I will be a student in Introduction to Medical Administration at Holmesglen TAFE (taking a night class at technical college). If offered a job at this clinic, I would be granted recognition of prior learning. 2) I study -successfully- by distance education, so I'm comfortable working independently and I have excellent time-management skills. Also, my schedule is very flexible, so I can cover for other people. 3) As my volunteering suggests, I am polite, conscientious, and socialise well with people of all ages. I can touch-type and I am familiar with Microsoft Office '03 and '07 and Apple iWork '08. Can you think of anymore points I should make? Neatly attired? Lovely phone manner? And, finally, my resume summarised: I worked for four months as a retail assistant at an up-market grocery store; I volunteer as a community visitor; I have completed an Occupational Health and Safety program developed by the State government for the purposes of work experience; I will be undertaking a course in First Aid later this month; and I have an *excellent* reference, which you may read. http://i34.tinypic.com/2v8kh78.jpg That's all, I think. Please, please, help! I have no idea where to start.

The secret for Wal-Mart not getting caught of Fear and intimidation is simple: a lot of unwritten rules so there is no evidence. A lot of non-managers associates will respond by saying they see or know nothing of improper treatment. They will also have selective memory. The Legal Division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc is preparing countercharges and some will be Invasion of Privacy, Defamation of Character, Character Assassination, Destroying Reputation, Intent , Injurious to morale , etcetera, but the biggest will be that this site is ONLY generalizations and especially baseless with no legally verifiable facts. Will the Legal Division have legitimate countercharges ? Yes, but I chose no to type all them and have them ready for a lawyer for effective defense and so it is their problem to figure them out. Duress and Graymail may be part of the defense of Max Rafael Waller along with the usual Freedom of Exprssion afforded by the US Constitution Graymail can be used against US Federal Government and possibly local Law Enforcement. Will Wal-Mart succeed in having Max Rafael Waller discredited by a Psychological Evaluation thereby stigmatizing him as a man with grands delusions ? Is Samuel Robson Walton of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc part of this ? Ensuring that legal cases proving that the rules to ensure to easy terminate people are not made aware? INTIAL ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT WITH A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION A possible misdiagnosis and initial attempt to discredit through a Psychological Evaluation by Scott Wang MD from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center 15301 Rinaldi St Mission Hills CA 91345 Telephone: 1-818-365-8051 Dr Scott Wang's name could not be found at their website http://www.providence.org/losangeles/facilities/providence_holy_cross/default.htmand he is the one who possibly suggested a Psychiatric Evaluation so a result to Wal-Mart's desire could be used to start discrediting Max Rafael Waller An old white man with a Kaiser Permanente badge and from a Psychiatric Evaluation team from Kaiser never left a business card or a phone number for communication. He looked like an actor from Law and Order portraying a Psychiatrist and impersonation IS illegal and punishable by law. On Sunday, 1 April 2007 Dr Paul R Hladon Kaiser Permanente 13652 Cantara St Panorama City CA 91402 Telephone: 1-818-375-2377 Dr Paul R Hladon reluctantly gave Max two prescriptions: Azithromycin 250MG {Take two tablets daily for seven days} and Ciprofloxacin HCL 500MG{Take one tablet orally two times a day for fourteen days} Only two X-Rays and no blood test done, so how did Dr Hladon know what to prescribe ? He took the medicine and instructions as given. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The FBI are also exploiting fear and they have the BSU as their asset. Bill Lang has casually spoken about death and intimidation about how Max will get fired with one more coaching which comes from the FBI and Wal-Mart's Homeoffice in Bentonville Arkansas 72716. Possible causes Max Rafael Waller's fear of possibly dying. Around Wednesday, 21 March 2007 he dragged the rotting carcass of a dog so children would not touch it. It was in front on the Pepsi Bottling Plant in San Fernando California 91340 and its entrance is on Dronfield Ave. He MIGHT have breathed some Bacteria, Germs or other Biological Agents and maybe some Botulism. Also Desiccating{drying} Bacteria. Esther Topete was watering the front lawn at 11261 Sproule Ave, Pacoima California 91331 and was scared. Max picked up a headless Squirrel that had a foul stench and maggots and placed in the garbage bin. Psychiatric Evaluation(S) is a legal tool to discredit a critic so if they can find that a individual(s) has mental problems or unable to cope with life's problem the discrediting tactic will work. A stigma of mental problem is almost impossible to overcome. Being labeled with poor mental health has been used to successfully discredit a critic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTIVITIES BY THE FBI Group Stalking will be denied resulting with the accusser(s) being prejudged or viewed as someone with Visual Hallucinations, additionally, Electromagnetic Harassment or Electromagnetic Pulses will be denied resulting with the accusser(s)being prejudged or viewed as someone with Auditory Hallucinations. Both can be used when someone is driving or walking but when someone is trying to sleep the Electromagnetic Harassment will be used to disrupt sleep and with lack of sleep people's behavior is altered significantly and people end up with the impressions that they cannot handle stress. Electromagnetic Harassment is used to break the will of people who dare to dissent. The FBI has a complete profile of Max Rafael Waller and two weak areas are Anger and Anxiety, so they will create a situation that will end with him having a Fatal Heart Attack and/or Fatal Stroke. The FBI will to DO Sleep Deprivation/disruption AGAINST MAX RAFAEL WALLER. The collaborators of US Law Enforcement are the neighbors around Sproule Ave and Pierce St area Will the FBI be creative and imaginative with this information along with the profile to discredit Max Rafael Waller ? The neighbors around the corner of Sproule Ave and Pierce St in Pacoima California 91331 are collaborating by playing a lot of bass on their speakers and technically their noise is considered Electro-Magnetic Pulses, EMP, since the speakers have magnets energized or powered by electricity. This is why it is vital for them to have people found to be mentally unstable by the legal use of Psychological Evaluation. The FBI will discredit Max Rafael Waller by ALL NECESSARY MEANS as they other Americans like a serial killer Biological and Psychological war along with Electronic from their world famous Behavioral Science Unit or BSU The FBI might HAVE an unofficial pact with Organized Crime and they have been intercepting phone calls and ended phone calls with the help of Time-Warner Cable US Law Enforcement have all of the Internet activities and had yet to find any evidence to charge someone of potentially being an Internet Predator and Pedophile. Sadly the owners of the house at 11261 Sproule Ave, Pacoima CA 91331 are family members and do NOT want to get involved. Su much for family unity. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surveillance, Psychotronics and (Gang)Stalking Operations The Xiandos web site is http://xiandos.info/Surveillance,_Psychotronics_and_(Gang-)Stalking_Operations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The FBI will cite National Security and not allow the reviews of any US Federal Black Operations. Any damaging evidence destroyed or manipulated before it is declassified. An example is how LTC Oliver North and Fawn Hall destroyed documents about Iran Contra. The September 11 attacks provided justification for the withdrawal of a number of types of government information on the web. The Bush Administration had already been accused of being the most secretive government in many decades. On October 12, 2001 Attorney General John Ashcroft issued a policy memorandum on the Freedom of Information Act that encourages government officials to deny access to information. At the same time, other "sensitive" information such as the locations of nuclear power plants, chemical hazard risk management plans, pipeline maps, and reports related to other hazards were removed from government agency Web sites on the grounds of national security. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To verify the FBI's LACK OF COOPERATION Please call 1-310-477-6565 and if they respond only with FBI keep on pressing with the question "May I please have your name." If they refuse then ask "Please cite the guidline or policy that states that you do not have to give me you name" The FBI might HAVE an unofficial pact with Organized Crime and they have been intercepting phone calls and ended phone calls with the help of Time-Warner Cable The routine patrols by the Los Angeles Police Department has been NOTICEABLE ABSENT from Dronfield St and Pierce St along Dronfield St all the way to Dronfield St and Arroyo St that Max Rafael Waller walks this route The FBI, MySpace, and Yahoo are master of allowing "technical glitches and other excuses" and this is an example of an almost Orwellian Society. MySpace, Yahoo, MSN, along with others protect White Supremacist willingly! Yahoo,MSN,and Google HAVE betrayed dissenters in China and ARE betraying people in the United States of America, so we live in an almost Orwellian Society. Yahoo will not going to allow irrelevant answers to any topic at their forum and forget that people are smart and will ignore them, thus Yahoo should not censor even moronic ranting. Allow Yahoo users ignore and continue, moreover, Yahoo records their IP Address so what is the problem? MySpace might censor people. You want an example? I am writing about topics not related to the heading. Please read my comments on the headline; Music. What I wrote there is tangential! Max Rafael Waller used to give too much personal information and others that should had NEVER been revealed and might have been used to discredit him or end up with bad publicity. Especially to Bill Lang His brother would say to give to much info and you need to be discreet and Max's mother also agrees. Do not be surprised when they use Cease and Desist for Legal Intimidation that has worked. The US Courts protect men with Power and Wealth. Wal-Mart rivals the propaganda of Joseph Goebbel and hides the truth so easily with over 30 years of practice and refining. The deafeated Thomas M Coughlin has almost 30 years of Wal-Mart's dirt. The New York Times do NOT fear Wal-Mart and in fact I hope they investigate everything stated here Some people are giving the impression that they are from OSHA, Occupational Safety Hazard Agency. Report them because they are breaking the law(s). Samuel Robson Walton and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc somewhat fear the investigative reporting prowess of the New York Times The Code of Silence is not just strictly applicable to Law Enforcement! Public education and priorities will save the United States of America Ensuring that legal cases proving that the rules to ensure to easy terminate people are not made aware? Wal-Mart Stores, Inc has a persistent Legal Divsion that rivals the US Federal Government and has many victories on its belt. It can be verified just ask the New York Times for confirmation. Wal Mart Stores, Inc violate their own Global Ethics policies. Their Global Ethics Office have stated that they only handle Age Discrimination. General of the Army Eisenhower was a great military man but found out that fellow Republicans did not have to obey his orders. President Ronalnd Wilson Reagan is dead, but President George Herbert Walker Bush is still alive. Do you think the President George Walker Bush would bust his dad to save his legacy ? Heroes Theodore Roosevelt and James Earl Carter, Jr or Jimmy Carter. Earl Warren was a great progressive Republican Governor of the State of California and one of the best Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court. What do you guys think of my day? This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration. At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school. After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it's valuables thanks to the local police department. I then log on to the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right. And just how did they human race manage to survive all those 100s of thousands of years without "big brother " ? Mainly in caves with a life expectancy of less than 30 years? And this isn't about a totalitarian "big brother". This is about an elected, representative government doing what it was elected to do -- you know, "promote the general welfare"
